Herkules has pretty much been given the shaft ever since his first appearance.
I can´t remember the last time when he wasn´t treated like a drunk, mindless brawler.

And yet I think that (the Marvel version of ) the character is amazing and holds lots of potential, if given his own title, a nice rogues gallery, supporting cast and a good direction.

Imagine Herkules finally getting a decent treatment, with a creative team worth that name.giving the son of Zeus the same Oomph Thr got during the Simonson run.

Personally, I think it´d float.

And who´d be the best crew to bring this baby to port?
I´m going with Rucka and Jimenez.

Thoughts?

Hercules :) and not it can't

Not sure about Herkules, but I believe that Hercules could. Any character could hold a title with the proper angle.

I don't think so.It would be cancelled in short time...

If The Thing can't keep a comic going I don't think Hercules could.

cough it NOT herkules or hercules cough it's Herakles :) I think it would take a Fat Q wanting to try and talented writer/penciler combo who cared about the character for a series to have a shot. He has been typecasted as womanizing drunkard (which is how he was protrayed in some of the myths BUT not all).

Herakles was what the Greeks called him and Hercules was what the Romans called him am I right?

nope. people say with the right writer and artist it could make it, but theyre folling themselves. he does'nt even have a large fanbase to even warrant it.

Yes your correct! Unfortunatly some of the Greek God's names we used today are from the improper Roman versions but I didn't create the character Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did.

well if Spiderman was written as just a womanizing drunkard I doubt he have the fan base he has.

Every time I think about a solo Hercules book I'm driven back to the 90's, where everybody had their own book, and all of them pretty much sucked.

But get a really good creative team who utilized and expanded on Herc's great supporting cast, and yeah, I think it would fly. There's a number of ways it could be tackled too. I mean, this is Marvel's roster of Greek gods; a good writer who likes the characters should really be able to make something out of it.

I think it depends on the tone. I could see anything from a comedic series, to something really epic and blood-and-gutsy.

Herc on his own wouldn't sustain a solo book, but get the right creators at the right time and hell yeah it would work.

On a side note, I've always hoped for a big summer crossover from Marvel dealing with a war between Asgard and Olympus, [cliche]with the Earth caught in the middle.[/cliche] I'm a big fan of mythology 'n stuff, so that would really float my boat.

Yea,because MK had the biggest fan following before getting relaunched right?

Nah. He doesn't have the starpower for it. Moon Knight at least was like, a cult hit in the comic community. You know, one of those obscure characters actually everybody loves, but he remains obscure?

negative ghost-rider, the marvel herc is a down-played b!tch when compared to the mythology he actually acts more like the mythological thor, herakles actually had moments of lucidity...(but then so did thor)

Wasnt he suppose to get a title recently where he competed in some reality show?

As far as I know the Ares mini came out of Oeming appraching marvel with his idea for a hercules mini. Marvel rejected it in favor of the Ares mini. And much as that mini rocked I cant help but be dissapointed everytime I think about how it could have been a Hercules story
