The Dinobots are probably some of the most popular characters from G1, and a lot of people wanted them to make an appearance in this film. Obviously they aren't part of the line-up, so that leaves the possibility of sequels. When it comes down to it, would the Dinobots translate well into a live-action movie format? How could you explain why five giant alien robots would take on the form of dinosaurs in the present day? For me, it would depend on how they were written and the explanation for their dinosaur-based alt. modes.

Yes they could work. Although they'd be changed into insects and called the Aerialbots.

their stupidity would taint they already fragile franchise.

I mean if fans are upset about them not using the same voices and having a Decepticon Police Alt mode, then reintroducing the Dinobots would be a slap in their face.

Me Grimlock King!

If the comic book origin is used.... i.e. they were on the Ark when it crashed on Earth and were adapted by Teletran to scout the planet...., I think it would work quite well and provide for good sci-fi (if properly written).

However, based on the script reviews, 1) there is no "Ark" and 2) it didn't crash milions milllions of years ago on Earth. Presumably because Bay thinks the movie-going audience is to stupid to fathom such a premise.

The Comic Book's origins even fall flat here...cause the reason the Dinbots got their forms was cause of Marvel's Savage Land...not actual Prehistoric Times. And it would be hard to explain the different dinos all coming around at the same times, since Stegosaurus died out before T-Rex and Triceratops came along.

And The Ark hasn't been totally ruled out yet. Also your thoughts that Bay finds it stupid is a bit harsh and possibly unwarrented, since I doubt Bay ever said, thought, or made it like that cause of "people being too stupid". He probably just let the writers work first, then sat back and adjusted things as needed, and probably is still doing so now.

I think that the Dinobots could work in the movie, but I don't see then ever being Dinosaurs. Maybe as large missile trucks, armored trucks, tanks, or cannons. But I doubt we'll ever see them as full Dinobots.

Grimlock would almost assuredly be in a sequel. He's the one Dinobot they'd push the most to fit in, in some form.

They're already using scorponok who is supposed to be a giant mechanical scorpion, so I don't see why metal dinosaurs would be unacceptable.

You're right. The Savage Land thing wouldn't make sense. But I thought they had woven the prehistoric thing into future cartoons. In any case, it could be made to work. Perhaps the Ark activated certain Dinobots at certain times.... which would explain the dinosaurs from different epochs.

As for the Bay thing. I'm not getting into another 'Defend Bay' argument with you. :) All I can say is that his movies aren't exactly.... um, "food for thought" (IMHO).

I would like the idea of having the Dinobots in a Transformers prequel. Maybe telling the origins of how Optimus got the matrix and Grimlock's problem with Optimus, like in the war within series.

explain, just dont say nah, why not.
well..... i dunno isnt it enough we have robots that transform into cars..and their from outer space?

now dinosaur robots?......:(

i own the stegasaurus one though:D :D :D (its the only transformer i have)

if it would be a prequel on cybertron then they would have their cybertron alt modes. they wouldn't be Dinosaures.

seeing as i know nothing about transformers... then i guess it would be ok.

just not in this movie..... maybe a coming sequel:up: :) (if ever:O )

Like I said a prequel. Just read the Dreamwave comic series War Within and you'll see the Dinobots on cybertron were called the Dynabots. Grimlock and the others were cybertronian tanks while Swoop was a Cybertronian Jet. It was a badass 3 volume series that never got finished because of Dreamwave going bankrupt.
