On the way home from Transformers 2 last night, my brother suggested the perfect backstory for the Dinobots: when they came to earth, they landed in a (possibly run down) dinosaur-themed amusement park, and they took on the shapes of the giant animatronic dinosaurs as their alt modes. Simple, effective, and potentially quite humorous. :D

They should land at the "Creation Museum". That's entire added layer of hilarity right there.

Mine would be since The fallen and the primes was there before man even made civilization the Dinobots came before everyone before man existed on a exploration mission for energon but lost contact to Cybertron after finding the mother of all payloads got trapped in a Tar Pit or somethin that could imprision them for millions of years with out killing them more like a prison. But anyways.A archeologist searching for evidence of Alien tech since in ROTF they discovered that the pyramids were hiding a weapon to harvest the sun is searching for more evidence and finds what used to be a tar pit or something that can imprison them that has lots of pre historic animal remains and they finally get near were the Dinobots are and they broke free destroying the exhibition site in the process.

And the movie continues with the dinobots in it

I considered something along those lines for a while too, but ultimately I like the amusement park idea better because it's simpler, and it also would give them an excuse to design a very cool set piece.

How inconspicous would giant meteors landing in a theme park and turning into giant dinosaurs be?

Just sayin...

Suppose they landed near the amusement park while it was closed? Maybe the amusement park is out of business?

run down parks dont get a lot of business, funny idea i just had since speilberg is producer for thse movies, they landed during the filming of jurrassic park movies and scanned the dinosaurs from that movie

It could work. Though I've always been partial to a modified version of their Marvel Comics origin myself.

Wheeljack builds them to defend an artifact in the mountainous jungles of South America.

He is inspired by dinosaurs because of their perfect design for massive weight distribution and jungle terrain.

and jurrassic park is a movie hes seen a little to much

but seriouly, smaller animals move about the jungle in a much easier way do to size, well there you go, they size was also a factor. or the dinobots are respnosible for creatures like the Mokele-mbembe, a living sauropod/longneck, and other assorted living dinosaur myths

^Timstuff are you sure about your idea?? I mean i dont wanna sound like i hate it which i dont. But fans and just in general people are hating ROTF for its humor. So why go with this idea? This idea would just make more people hate it for the fact that it would be comedic and kinda childish.

its not that chilish, assume the dinobots thinks the dino animatranics are the dominant life form or transpfortation and looking into it there is a cryptid-dino for each creture a dinobot turns inot

Why would any intelligent transformer want to have a ginormous reptile as they're alt form anyways...

to hide from something chasing them?
oh tf3 plot device, they land somewere thinking they are surrounded by the dominant force on the planet disquise themselves as the dinos, then they reveal when they are interogoated/choose a side, reveal they were chased by unicron to the planet

Check out my thread in the sequels section- An idea i had was that megatron finds a way to summon these legendary dinosaur transformers to attack throughout the world to distract the Autobots from something bigger.

I don't think that the Dinobots being built would really work in the movieverse, since in the movie mythology the transformers are alive due to possessing sparks and being irradiated with energon. If someone were to just build them, they'd be soulless machines.

Also, as for the usefulness of having dinosaur alt modes, I agree that they do not serve any practical purpose as a disguise, which has always been a problem for the characters. However, if they are hiding in a dinosaur-themed amusement park then it makes sense, and when they need to leave their hiding place I'm guessing that remaining hidden will no longer be a necessity.

The other alternative that i've heard, though it would be very unpopular with fans, is that they just introduce Grimlock and have him transform into a T-rex themed monster truck. Personally though, I'd rather stay true to the general concept of the dinobots, and use my amusement park idea. :D

The only way it makes sense is if they use their alt modes in the past, to blend in with actual dinosaurs.

or if we go with timestuff's park idea they land, find out dinos aint the best alt modes and adopt vehilcular alt modes, ike alternators were everybody was a car, just cars, no trucks or anything

I do not think the Dinobots would care if their alt modes would be suitable or not...
They should arrive on earth, scan the Internet and select the Dino mods. Later on in the movie it should be pointed out that their alt modes are not the best camouflage.

The dinobots would only have to say that they are not there to hide and have nothing to fear. They would then leave the autobots and go on a destructive rampage through a nearby city trying to find a decepticon which is in hiding. Then there should be a argument' between Optimus and Grimlock which would end with Dinobots deserting to destroy more decepticons.

and when the autobots catch word of the rampage they go to stop them then the grim prime fallout

I know we were all fans of the Dinobots in the cartoon, but in a live action film they'd be silly and pointless. You need to think about the average joe who doesn't know much about the old series. To them, these are supposed to be robots in disguise and how often do you see dinosaurs walking around in public. Not that it matters anyway since the only Autobots that get any real screen time at all are Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.

It could be that the autobots simply need the raw power of dino sized/shaped robots so the build the dinobots.

Again, I don't see the autobots building the dinobots in the movieverse, since the their reproductive process is not nearly as simple as just building more of themselves in this continuity.

In light of ROTF, I really think that they could just be five TF's who stood with the Primes when they battled the Fallen and later remained on Earth to help guard the Matrix. Then upon reawakening in the present day, they either are initially confused or just don't care about practicability and adopt their dinosaur alt. modes.

It could be that the autobots simply need the raw power of dino sized/shaped robots so the build the dinobots.
Then why not just build huge robots with guns and rockets?

This just doesnt make any sense. For them to scan actual dinosaurs, that would mean that they would have to come to earth before even the Primes came.... Ubsurd. Or that they scanned them in a museum or an amusement park. But even if the Dinobots are ******ed, wouldnt any other bot point out that they did a bad job at camouflaging themselves? So sooner or later they would be forced to scan something else. Then, its the matter of mobility. The others would just drive around. How would the dinobots go around?

It just wouldnt work. Especially if they are like the Beast Wars robots with actual organic skin (alice used a hologram right?), because lets face it, the point of the franchise is about robots turning into cars and jets, not terminators.

The only way it could work is if 3-5 new autobots (not the dinobots) came to earth and were assigned to a spying mission. Lets say to spy on a goverment building next to a museum. Or maybe even protect it. Maybe they could be protecting Sam's university. But the university consists of a thousand buildings, doesnt it?
So anyway, the museum happens to host a science fiction expo, so they try to hide there, scanning and replacing the robotic dinausaurs (that happen to look like the G1 dinobots) that were on display. And they stay there spying or guarding until the decepticons attack said buidling and they use their dino modes to "bring the rain" on the decepticons. They later abandon those forms because they are impractical for transport or camouflage but they comment on how awesome and powerful those beasts would have been at that time.

Now, in the beginning of this i said that i wouldnt use the actual dinobots because after the nod to them, the robots would get more conventional alt modes and it would look silly seeing Grimlock transform into a car for the rest of the movie. Besides, you really want to trust the most stupid bots (and i dont mean that as an insult to them, but rather that they werent really bright, were they?) of the franchise to Bay? You know that they will be in more sex jokes than fights right?

That would be a nice nod to the dinobots without bogging down the script. That way the fans get to see some dinobots and the genaral audience wont be scatching their heads on why those robots would even bother transforming into dinosaurs.
