In this thread we post our versions of Superman Returns. Taking the plot of Superman Returns (this means you can't just say you want an origin film based on STAS/Man Of Steel/Birthright or whatever), you have to explain how you would do things. Then other posters rate your film to see if you can actually do better than what Bryan Singer did.
Basically I would start the film showing Superman just before he has left. Lois is shoving Superman away, essentially breaking up with him. Superman can't understand why. Lex Luthor manages to evade prison. Things are looking down for Superman. Then news appears about the discovery of a far away planet, and Superman realises it is Krypton. He has a choice; go there and look for survivors, or stay here. Thinking he has nothing to stay here for, he leaves Earth without telling anyone, not even Lois.
Roll opening credits. Similar to the one used for SR, but this follows the journey of his ship to Krypton. At the end of the end credits we get a message saying 2.5 years later, and then the John Williams Krypton theme kicks in and we close in on ruins of Krypton, similar to the start of Superman: The Movie. This starts the "Return to Krypton" scene, which I would not have cut out. Superman sees there is nothing left, and makes his way home.
"2.5 Years later"
The ship crashes at Martha Kent's farm. She discovers her son has returned. This part of the film shows Superman contemplating on whether he should resume being Superman, and looking through old newspapers he sees all the catastrophes he hasn't been there to stop. One thing makes him angry the most; Lex Luthor is now a respected businessman, owner of LexCorp, the richest man in the world and basically owns Metropolis. Superman believes he has no choice but to resume his job as the world's protector.
We meet Clark at the Daily Planet. He is greeted by Jimmy, and as he makes his way to Lois' desk he notices something disturbing; a pulitzer prize for an article titled "Why the world doesn't need Superman" .. written by Lois Lane. He also sees a photo of Lois with a man and a small child. Jimmy explains Lois has a kid, but is not married yet. This disturbs Clark.
Then the plane rescue happens. But there is a massive difference at the end; Superman is booed by the crowd. As he flies off, he is pelted with hotdogs and sodas.
Lex Luthor is angered by Superman's return. He exclaims "Why is it everytime I do something productive, he comes along and ruins it all!" and we see him eying a peice of crystal on his desk.
Clark Kent reunites with Lois, meets Richard and the kid. Unable to cope with all thse new things, Superman flies to his Fortress of Solitude, and discovers all the crystals are gone. Superman knows immediately who is responsible, and flies to Lexcorp tower.
There, he interrogates Luthor, but Superman does not have the upper hand like the other times. Lex gloats over how he has turned the public against him and that Superman can't do anything about it. What really gets under Superman's skin is when he comments on how Lois' article helped him.
So things aren't doing well for Superman. The rest of the film basically goes the same, with maybe a bit more rescue scenes, like Superman stopping a train, rescuing people from burning buildings, etc.
Lex's plan is a bit different. This time he reveals that the island he is making now is merely a means of getting rid of those who can stop him, mainly Superman. He will make more islands that are more hospitable afterwards.
There is also a scene where Luthor uses his advanced alien technology to take down the military.
After all is said and done, Superman has lifted New Krypton into space and dies, we see how the public (and Lois) forgive Superman for leaving them. Lex Luthor is a wanted criminal. Superman comes back to life, visits his son and the film ends as usual.
So, i've made my input, now it's your turn to demonstrate how you can do better. You can also rate my version. Feel free to criticise, and let's keep any personal vendettas against Singer out of this
