Countdown To Ps3...

I'm not getting a PS3 until 2007 anyhow. Too expesive for me. Sony is making a very big mistake.

Every beginning, has an end.

R.I.P.

Sony PlayStation

1995 - 2006

I wasn't planning to get the PS3 until it dropped the price alot. Starting out at $600 is WAY more than I can afford, and the games are said to be coming out at $70-$100 each, so again way more than I can afford. So it seems Sony's 'potential' is is dropping with every passing day. And I was looking forward to the PS3 too...

NOT NECESSARILY......BUT THEY AREN'T RULING OUT THE POSSIBILITY, BEING DODGEY AND DECEPTIVE AS USUAL. :o

"An interview that the Independent Playstation Magazine (PSM) had with Kaz Hirai seems to suggest that games on the Playstation 3 could very well cost over the current US$59 "high end standard".

The following excerpt is taken from the PSM August edition:

PSM: Can we expect PS3 games to be priced in the same range as Xbox 360 titles?

KH: Generally speaking, over the past twelve years or so, there has been a consumer expectation that disc-based games are maybe $59 on the high end to $39 on the low end. So, what I can say now is, I think it would be a bit of a stretch to think that we could suddenly turn around and say "PS3 Games now $99.99."

I don't think consumers expect software pricing to suddenly double, so the quick answer is that we want to make it as affordable as possible, knowing that there is a set consumer expectation for what software has cost for the past twelve years. That's kind of the best answer I can give you. So, if it becomes a bit higher than $59, don't ding me, but, again, I don't expect it to be $100."

Holy ****. They can word it differently all they want, but $100? Theres no way anyone would seriously be willing to pay that. To me $50 is a must have title. $100? There are maybe 5 games in the history of gaming actually worth that.

To think that 10+ years ago $70-$100 was what we were paying for games. Super Mario 3 was $79, Street fighter 2 was $89. Disks have spoiled us.

But more expensive games hurt the N64. Granted they were an infirior storage medium (cartriges). Still paying $20 more per game for an untested storage medium (BRD) is an even bigger risk than the high price for the console for the BRD-ROM and the cell core.

I hope sony is will take everyone out to dinner or at least buy flowers before they really give it to everyone!

Seriously, if Sony doesn't drop the price of the Playstation 3 before launch or a few months after launch and if they do charge over $59.99 for games, they will be shooting themselves in the foot, badly. So bad the entire leg would be blown off.

If I get a PS3 around launch it's going RIGHT to Ebay.

Haha, thats exactly what I was thinking.

Knowing sony it will be 3 years after release before the first price drop. Looks like I will be getting it around 2009

LOL, you know that will never happen!!! There are too many idiots out there in the world for them not too!

Yeah, but it would ****ing hilarious.

"Even ebay can't sell the PS3. It makes the 3DO look like a masterpiece" ;)

So let me get this straight...

if you want to buy say RE5 or Turok or something for PS3, it will be $70-90. If you want to buy it for 360 it's $60.

Yeah, I know which one I'd go for. It's like 360 selling x box ports for 360 prices....I'm not gonna pay for it when I can get a cheaper version for other consoles.

Back in the early 90s, the SNES was only $10 more than the NES, so you didn't feel bad buying a new console with better graphics.

With the PS3 and Xbox 360, right now it's the exact ****ing opposite. You'll feel dirty.

I wouldn't mind so much if PS3 had mind blowingly amazing graphics that made 360 look like crap, b ut so far all we have seen in cgi footage everyone except maybe zenien knew was fake, and games that look , for the most part, much less impressive than the excellent 360 line up so far.
The graphics are more or less exactly the same, except sony is charinging you bout 200 bucks more. Surely only a moron would buy it when you could get more or less the same machine with better games cheaper?

We're in agreement. As much as I enjoy the Metal Gear series, it's not worth selling a kidney just so I can find out what happens in MGS4.

Taste in anything is subjective, except when "potential" has a $600 price point.

**** that.

Couldn't have said it better.

Even if you could just about forgive the 600 bucks price point for the machine, 70 plus dollars for each game should kill it for anyone.

This part of the article got me....

Even with that high price Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi stated just after the E3 press conference that the PS3 was “probably too cheap." In an interview with Japanese media outlet IT Media he is quoted as saying “This is the PS3 price. Expensive, cheap -- we don't want you to think of it in terms of game machines. Because the PS3 is like nothing else. For instance, is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem.”
Come on now, who are they trying to kid? "Too Cheap"? Yeah, for people with a lot of money who can afford it; but for the rest of us who can't, that a lot of money especially since there's still a lot of stuff we don't know about yet.
