Not super familiar with the team, but by all means, more supernatural shenanigans in a world of superheroes.

I wonder if Gunn will get Kinnaman to play Flag Sr.

Probably not, if that’s the character who will also be appearing on Waller.

The rumor seems to be that Frank Grillo will be Rick Flag Sr.

In response to a rumor that Henry Cavill will be playing Frankenstein’s Monster.

Wonder if we will get casting soon.Sometimes they leave it late.

At this point, they might as well just come out and say he’s Flag Sr.

Surprised about Harbour as Frankenstein. Guess I was just expecting the wrong Hellboy.

I kind of felt like they’d be going for someone with some voice acting street cred for that part, considering that even if he appears in live action, he’ll likely be 100% CG.

Given Gunn’s directive, all the characters have the potential to cross over into live action, but I’m curious to know which ones actually will, at least in the immediate future.

That tweet after the initial projects were revealed about one of these characters showing up on Waller almost certainly points to Flag Sr… Phosphorus would make for a fun cameo in Brave and the Bold… and that Frankenstein design resembles David Harbour too much not to see that in live action.

Like Bourdain, Gunn is a fan of comics, but also animation, even if he hasn’t spent much of his career working in it. For Makkos, it’s his commitment and excitement, as well as his knowledge of this specific property, that made them eager to work with him in the space. “He knew Creature Commandos — one of his favorite comics — when he took over the DC Universe,” she says. “He literally wrote the episodes. He has cast the voices. He’s designed the art. He’s so passionate about it.”

“James brought a whole other flavor to it, which is the sympathy that he has for these ‘monster’ characters,” Girardi adds. “I’ve never worked on something like that before.”

So this random animated series about a group of monsters is going to be the first installment of the new DCU canon? Seems like a really illogical way to kick things off.

Gunn may have commented further on this with the usual evasive answers, but the timing on this project clearly indicates that its development, writing and production predate the promotion of its creator to the head of DC Studios.

In the same way as The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2, I think this is a "relic" of the old regime, something supposed to be nothing more than a direct spin-off from The Suicide Squad.
However, it also seems that the story told is sufficiently detached from direct references to the defunct DCEU (I believe the story takes place in the "past") to be eventually moved into the new extended universe that is the DCU, and not give the impression of a show "going nowhere".

I imagine Gunn won't go into too much detail about all this, so as not to muddy the waters even more when it comes to the big mess that is Warner's DC adaptations...

I seem to recall Gunn making a point in that video where he announced the slate of projects that, despite Creature Commandos and Waller being first, Superman: Legacy is the true beginning of the DCU, and I think that tracks. Between the dangling connections to the DCEU (and the clear fact that both were put into motion when that era was still in full swing) and the fact that there will undoubtedly be more demand/awareness/marketing push put toward a new Superman film, I think that’s obviously the real event to kickstart things.

"We recorded a bunch of stuff. I mean, not only do I get to play in the DC Universe, I get to play in the James Gunn DC Universe, which is a whole new exciting thing. I didn't know what it was when it was sent to me; I met with James, and he sort of laid out a lot of stuff. It's really exciting. He considers it some of the best stuff he's ever written. It's hilarious, and the character is great. I think it's been announced that it's Frankenstein, and it's a very colorful, terrific character. So, yeah, we've started to shoot stuff. I'm not one to really break, but during this, it is wildly funny stuff. So, yeah, we're shooting. It's hilarious and I can't wait for people to see it."
