Horror 'Creature from the Black Lagoon'

Epic Bump.

I did some searching on YouTube and found this. Any idea if this is related to the project or not?

Also, I am unfamiliar with Eisner as a director. What's the word on him? Because of all Monster Movies out there, this is the one that I do not want them to **** up.

There were a hell of a lot of different looking designs in that short vid. It'll be interesting to see what they actually wind up with. For the most part they seem to be staying fairly close to the original design in all those different shots, which is good. I saw hints of Abe Sapien and Predator in there, too (both of which are obviously influenced heavily by the original creature design).

Why was Stan Winston's 'Gill-man' from 'Monster Squad' in that Youtube vid?

Was it? That's even worse. I'm smelling "fake". There were too many different designs in that video rather than a singular design concept that really looked like they'd settled on a final design.

I'm realy excited to see a revival of the classic Universal movie monsters...so long as they don't mess them up! I'm iffy on Wolf Man (I love me some gore, but it feel like a complete disrgard to the orignial's charm), but this could be good.

And here's to hoping that del Toro can get some time in his busy schedule get the ball moving on his Frankenstien project...that's the most exciting of these so far.

This pic Matt has posted is just a Perfect Design.........the Creature scared the Hell out of me when i was a little Kid,can´t wait for the Remake.

'Creature from the Black Lagoon' Remake Finally Gets Director

As long as it has taken to get Universal's "The Wolfman" to where it is today multiply that by about 5 and you have the mind numbing trouble it has taken to get the "Creature From the Black Lagoon" remake off the ground. Directors are on, then they are off, production is set then it is delayed, finally it looks like the green light has been lit...

Follow up:

News that Universal Pictures is in early talks with Carl Erik Rinsch to direct "Creature From the Black Lagoon," a remake of the 1954 U pic about an undersea creature that terrorizes a scientific expedition.

Strike Entertainment's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce with Gary Ross.

Deal would be the second big U picture for Rinsch, who will make his feature directing debut on "47 Ronin," the epic samurai swordsmen tale that takes place in 18th century Japan, and is set to star Keanu Reeves. That picture is expected to begin production next year. Look for this to follow the horror trend and be shot in 3D. It's speculation at this point but we would bet the farm that it will follow suit.

Rinsch is known for lensing highly visual commercials for RSA owners Ridley and Tony Scott. The Scotts once courted Rinsch to direct a prequel to "Alien," until Ridley Scott decided to helm that film himself.

Universal has been keen to reprise "Creature," one of its most famous monster franchises. In a previous incarnation, the studio had Breck Eisner attached to direct a script by Ross, whose father, Arthur A. Ross, co-wrote the original.

Wow. Finally some movement on this! Still way to early to have any opinion.

I just hope the Creature design looks good.

With the new Wolf Man they made really great improvements, but not so extreme that it doesn't still resemble the original.
I hope they go that same route with Creature.

I would love to see all the new Universal monster movies made with the same look and style as the new Wolf Man movie. Top-notch actors in a dark, serious, vicious monster action movie.
I know the original Creature From the Black Lagoon was made in a more contemporary setting, but I think it would be cool if it took place in the late 1880's, keeping all the Universal monsters in the same universe, per say.
There's something about that period that makes these monsters more frightening and more powerful. It takes us out of everything we know and puts us in a time period where we are more defenseless and the monsters more believable.
I don't know, it's just wishful thinking...

I see no reason to stray too far from the original design. To me, it looks just as cool today as it did 55 years ago:

I have a bit of a crush on Ms. Adams.

Yeah she's hot.

Cant wait, I've always been a fan of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Yup.

It's easy to see why the Creature took such a liking towards her.

She reminds me of Jennifer Connelly.

God, apart of me has hope for this but another I just have a feeling they're gonna **** this up.

Do a slight modification of the original costume. NOT the sequel costumes. The sequel costumes gave the mask bulging eyes. It looks awful. The original one had sunken eyes and looked incredibly badass when it was lit the right way.

Do a period piece like CHEZ suggested and this film is golden. They can scour the "Movies You'd Like To See Made" thread and steal the ideas I and Doctor Jones had. Quality ripe for the taking, haha.

Hahahaha! Well, CrimsonMist, if you have good ideas, you should really protect them as much as possible. You never know, you might be sitting on a goldmine of a concept.

It would have been wonderful news had a guy like Guillermo Del Toro been hired as director. He has experience with Mer-men!
But, alas, I love seeing up-and-comers make it big.

Maybe this guy Carl Erik Rinsch will blow us away.
Here, http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43116 there are samples of his commercial work. Not bad.

Anyone wish Joe Dante made his version when he had the chance? Could have been pretty cool.

Good call on the Jennifer Connelly comparison.

As for them ****ing this up, a big factor would be if it's rushed and sloppily put together like Universal did with the Wolfman. I still don't blame that on Johnston.

Well, that sounds just awful. They couldn't find anyone who's only really directed one film which bombed pretty badly?

They must have a lot of hope for the project :cmad:
