Critics' Reviews: Discussion

6-7/10 isn't bad. Obviously this film isn't anything brilliant, but everyone seems to be enjoying it, which is a good sign. It's an action film, not deep, not goin for an oscar, just some fun entertainment, and that's what it sounds like it is.

It's weird though. If you see a film and you come out noting both positives and negatives, does it mean you like it more than you dislike it, or the other way around? The rating system tries to mediate that at least, but not all of the time. But you can also tell by the 'tone' of any review, critic or not.

It will be an entertaining film when I go see it but it won't be repeated viewing material. Somehow, that's the intent of the backers here - other than those hidden endings, of course.

Yep, 3 out of 5 is positive...enough. It is hard though because if it's 7.5/10 then you really like it but it could also be 6/10 which is not positive. The 5 star rating system is a little weird.

Yes, that is true. I gave it 7/10 on my newspaper blog.

The review also went into my newspaper's entertainment section, where a star rating out of 5 has to be assigned. I thought it was more than a 3 so i gave it a 4, though out of 10 i wouldn't give it an 8 !!!!

I heard two good thing in that entire interview. Robert Rodriguez having full creative control of the Predator reboot. At least Rothman is doing something right (for now) and Ridley Scott returning for a possible Alien reboot/sequel/prequel (hopefully Rothman won't interfere with that project either).

well i dont belive this.

but we have a thread for this :yay:

Don't want to go completely off topic but Rodriguez is actually handling the entire project in his own studio. Fox will just take care of distribution. You can choose not to believe but its already been stated by Rob himself.

I know there's a thread but maybe you should check out the majority of the content in that video before you post it. :oldrazz:

Plus isn't this the review thread? Maybe this should have been posted in the interviews thread.

I really like Rodriguez, he shows no compromises AT ALL in his films.

Does anyone remember that mock trailer that was at the start of Planet Terror? Machete with Danny Trejo? Apparently he wants to make a film of that as well, that would be frickin insane!

And glad to hear that Deadpool and Gambit will be getting films. Well, if Donner isn't talking out of her ass anyway.

According to Shuler-Donner she'd like to have Singer back to possibly direct the first Deadpool and/or Gambit film if Wolverine proves to be successful.

If they can bring back Singer that would be excellent. :applaud

Yea definitely

But you know, talking of Rodriguez, I would love to see him direct and hard-core rate R Deadpool film. But seeing as Deadpool is now getting popular with more and more people, I doubt they would go the Blade route with him.

But yea, Singer for Deadpool? Has win written all over it.

Dude, no Singer for Deadpool. You will get little to no humor.

Any other X flick yeah.

That would be incredibly awesome if that were to happen but as you mentioned I doubt Fox would want to polarize Deadpool especially with his growing popularity. A PG-13 film light on violence take on the character seems far more likely.

I think Singer would be able to add some serious depth with minor use of gore/violence to still convey Deadpools not so rosy history.

Na I think Singer is a good enough director to understand that a Deadpool film would have to have humour. And he is good enough director to get the dramatic, disturbing parts right that are also essential to a Deadpool film.

But like I said, my ideal director for a Deadpool flick would be Rodriguez. The guy would absolutely nail it.

FOX distributed Taken and made it PG13. the movie was R.

Singer would be horrible for the character, hes all about the drama.
The character should be somewhat balanced but I have yet to see a Film by him that shows he can direct comedy. Singer would def have the more f'd up stuff down for Deadpool. But hes too serious. Anything in the X verse but Deadpool he would be awesome for.

Rodriguez would be a great choice. Gotta agree with ya there.

Look I'm more than aware that Fox messes projects up pretty frequently (especially of recently) but I think assuming what Fox might possibly do with this upcoming Predator film is jumping the gun a bit.

Terminator: Salvation was supposed to be rated R and instead it was trimmed a bit to get a PG-13 rating. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince is one of the darker and more violent Harry Potter books yet WB made sure it was rated PG.

So its not exactly fair jumping on Fox when other studios do the same. Its common practice really.

That's crappola. A film like Taken MUST be brutal to add to the narrative.

i knew 100% that TS would be PG13. only some peopel who like to dream were thinking that it could be R.

watchmen was going to be R and it was R. i knew that it wouldnt make tons of money because of the rating and because it was not a movie for the masss no matter how much they promoted the movie.

i would like a R terminator movie. but i am a realist. its 2009 and the budget is around 150 millions . a summer movie realesed in may with this kind of budget is nto going to be R. FACT and FACT

No reason to get mad. Just a simple observation. So if Fox decides to invest a good amount of money into Predator but they don't shoot for an R rating it suddenly becomes some sort of travesty even when WB has done the same?

Talk about double standards. Anyway its still jumping the gun saying that Rodriguez doesn't have full control and asserting an assumption on what rating Fox is aiming for and I honestly don't see a problem with a PG-13 Predator film.

a predator movie should not be 150 millions. but thats my opinion. the budget should be from 60-80 millions. maybe 90 millions.
then you can go with an R.

and whats with this double standards? i knew TS would be PG13. i think it is normal.
i have problems that FOX makes a movie like Taken PG13.if WB would do the same i would also be angry.

i am angry what they did with SR. 200 millions for christ sake. for what? a big rock?
