Critics' Reviews: Discussion

Some of the reviews that I have read are poorly written but that doesn't change the fact that I agree with their sentiment. It's a middle of the road flick and it didn't have to be.

I think that Wolverine could have easily been a very good movie. It had good parts but it wasn't enough to save the flick.

One of my favorite movies was The Fountain, and that got a 50% on RT. And that's just wrong. :cmad
I know! I can definitely see how someone could think it was pretentious, but I didn't care! It was beautiful! :waa:

It was - I saw it in the theater 3 times, but I made sure I went in the morning or a matinee because I knew the audiences that showed up at night were going to be unbearable. You go early, you got us art snobs and film students. Worked out perfect.

I still think the critics who panned that one should be beaten with their own laptops.
Plus AMC has that $6 Fri/Sat/Sun/Holiday pricing before noon. :yay:

Easily one of the best soundtracks ever. Seriously Clint Mansell, there is a special place in heaven just for you and that phenomenal score!
God, I know! I once drove up Hwy 1 (up the California coast, Malibu to Monterey) while playing The Fountain soundtrack, and it was perfect.

I wasn't a big fan of 2001 either. It was a meh experience for me, I will never watch it again.
2001 was definitely an experience, and I saw it on the big screen recently via a celebratory screening. I loved most of it, except the parts where Kubrick wanted to make us deaf with the loud, dissonant Ligeti. Not a fan of that!

I wasn't really much of a fan of the ending myself...i mean spirit babies...like i don't want to be a spirit baby...:(

I think the original ending had the spirit baby blowing up nuclear weapons all around the world. :funny:

And after seeing 2001, I found Wall-E 1000x more awesome.

I shamefully haven't seen Wall-E yet.
It gets a bit heavy-handed with the "message" near the end, and I wanted more robots and less humans. :funny: But it's very cute. It's impossible to not fall in love with Wall-E and Eve. :yay:

The first half of Wall-E is pure cinematic excellence. I loved it.

But yea it got a bit too preachy towards the end for my liking.

I keep hearing how the second half wasn't as good as the first.
Just pretend it's just Wall-E and Eve with no humans. :cwink:

Kind of like how I fast-forward through all of the Frodo scenes in LOTR. :hehe:

If you are refering to the people that give those comedy movies lots of money that have no story, no interesting characters, horrible acting, horrible sets, horrid cimematography, basically the entire thing is a piece of crap as far as quality film making goes...then yeah i agree with you. There are some movies that, my whole respect each others opinion and taste, goes out the window...some...

But this is not even close to one of those films...and neither is let's say elektra...i wouldn't trash anyone for liking elektra...sure it wasn't good, but it wasn't complete crap.

Yes, Norbit is probably an excellent movie to pick out...but I haven't seen it so...can't really judge...
Chaseter brought up norbit...i just edited it in...

I will say that anyone who enjoyed Norbit has bad taste is movies:D

I think we can safely say that Norbit crosses that line between opinion and fact... that it don't matter what you opinion is in that case...if you like that...you are screwed up.

And to prove this theory, we will get Spidermanhero12 to say something negative about it, even though he never says anything negative...

Ebert's review:

''There is little dialogue, except for the snarling of threats, vows and laments, and the recitation of essential plot points. Nothing here about human nature. No personalities beyond those hauled in via typecasting. No lessons to learn. No joy to be experienced. Just mayhem, noise and pretty pictures. I have been powerfully impressed by film versions of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Iron Man and the Iron Giant. I wouldn't even walk across the street to meet Wolverine.

But wait! -- you say. Doesn't "X-Men Origins" at least provide a learning experience for Logan about the origins of Wolverine? Hollow laugh. Because we know that the modern Wolverine has a form of amnesia, it cannot be a spoiler for me to reveal that at the end of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," he forgets everything that has happened in the film. Lucky man''
