Critics' Reviews: Discussion

I agree with most of this. My first boxoffice prediction was somewhere in between X1 and X3. I adjusted it to in between X1 and X2. I'm not sure if it will break the 200million barrier but, I don't think it will make more than X2.
Even with 100mil opening I definately don't think that it is outgrossing X3. I think I'm probably a little too harsh on the legs but I don't see it outgrossing X2 either.

This isn't the type of movie critics would love anyways...

Perhaps, although it's not like critics are averse to giving superhero, action movies better reviews when they feel they deserve them?

It was - I saw it in the theater 3 times, but I made sure I went in the morning or a matinee because I knew the audiences that showed up at night were going to be unbearable. You go early, you got us art snobs and film students. Worked out perfect.

I still think the critics who panned that one should be beaten with their own laptops.

Agreed. That movie went over a lot of people's heads. I don't know many who have seen it and didn't like it, but the ones I did missed the entire point of the film.

Easily Aronofsky's best work

Easily one of the best soundtracks ever. Seriously Clint Mansell, there is a special place in heaven just for you and that phenomenal score!

It's fun to be called dumb because you didn't like The Fountain. :)

Keep up the good work guys.

Anyway:

According to RT the critics sure didn't seem to mind Spider-Man 1 and 2, Batman, Batman Begins, TDK, Superman Returns, Superman, Superman 2, Hellboy, Hellboy 2, X-Men, X2, TIH and Iron Man.

It's a myth that the critics have an undying hate of all comicbook movies. Hell I haven't even included some movies who's reviews weren't all that bad.

I was actually insulting my friends...even worse :csad:

We're not calling anyone who didn't like The Fountain dumb. We just think critics who didn't like it were dumb. There's a difference. :cwink:

I thought that the Fountian was a disaster and I had high hopes for it. I knew exactly what kind of movie I was walking into and wanted so bad to like but ended up hating it.

Some (alot) people do have stupid taste in movies but I don't consider myself one of them. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into when I watched the film and still hated it, whats your defense against that?

Oh wait a second... I don't give a s**t!

The Fountain wasn't some misunderstood masterpeice it was a terrible movie that smart and dumb alike hated. Even dumb people could smell that turd.

You say that like X-Men 3 is a bad movie or something.

Hmmm sortta. X3 had its problems with too many new characters and story threads yadda yadda, but at least it had a steady flow to it. Wolverine, to me, was like ADHD in movie format.

I liked the fountain. But with how deep it was philosophically, I don't think it did it's best to play out the philisophical symbolism with action. I think that was a weakness with it, it was beautiful, it really was, and I liked it...and I don't mean dumb it down, but you gotta find the best way for it to fit into a story that can be followed enough to be entertained. See the fountain didn't really aim to entertain, it kinda aimed to tell this very deep story. TDK is a good example of taking deep philisophical issues and bringing it down to the audience, if you will.

Why did I think somebody would bring up TDK for no reason what-so-ever...oh, because people on Hype never fail too!

I expected these kind of reviews. It's a shame too, as this could easily have been better had they changed a few things about it from a structure standpoint. Too much deus ex machina in the movie.

My remedy for fixing the X-Men series...forgo doing X-Men films. Stop making them for a long while. Instead, start a television show on FOX. I think X-Men's episodic nature and many big plotlines can have whole seasons based around it and be the next phenomenon on TV like Heroes was before disappointing follow up seasons.

That would please me, but not Fox doing it. If Marvel could get their rights back and produce with the studios that did Heroes or Battlestar Galactica then that won't be a bad good thing at all.

I'm sorry but TDK is a great example of bring deep philisophical ideas in a very simple way...you gotta respect it. It was deep but entertaining enough to make all the money that it did. And money is what the movie business is all about. I'm sorry I didn't want to bring up TDK, but I couldn't think of a good example off the top of my head.

So it wasn't for no reason. It was actually my entire point.

Unfortunately, the rights are going to be at FOX for a longtime. The television division of FOX has produced some decent shows past few years, so I think it could work at FOX. I'd prefer another studio, but I'm a realist.

My defense will be not fighting over it :yay:

If I have offended you, I apologize. Wasn't my intention.

Well, smart and dumb people actually liked the movie too...so I'm not sure what your point is. It's your preference, your opinion, which I respect, but respect other peoples too. Like for me, I thought space odyssey was stupid, but it's seen as one of the greatest movies ever made. It had an amazing score, and very interesting scenes...but I'm never going to watch it for entertainment again.

Wow some of those are really poor. I don't mean in their rating but it seems like some of them didn't even watch the film or don't know how to write movie reviews.

That Times UK one for instance is abysmal. At least explain what you thought was wrong with it. He says things that can be pretty much summarized from the trailers and he dedicates about 3 paragraphs to it.

This will be an interesting weekend

I'm waiting to read a review from a critic where he accidentally slips in mentioning something from the leak then corrects himself. "While the leaked version contained this many.......Errrr no! I'm talking about the movie I saw in theaters[citation needed]."

I had walk outs in my theater, I believe that most who saw it didn't like it.

I wasn't a big fan of 2001 either. It was a meh experience for me, I will never watch it again.

Yea there is so many piss poor reviews up on RT. On both Fresh and Rotten ones.

But that UK Times one took the biscuit, a 10 year old could of wrote a more in depth review.

Yeah, I can see people walking out of the Fountain. At times I got a little bored, but that doesn't mean that people who liked it are beyond dumb...which is kinda what you were saying. I know some of my friends who love studying languages...like 24/7, now I would never do that...ever. Got two D's in both semesters of language i took. But they like it, and if someone really liked the fountain...good for them.

The Fountain and 2001 are for a certain audience. Not saying it's a smart audience or anything, but it is a particular audience. Those are two films I hold in high regard personally.

*Waits for this post to offend someone in misinterpretation*

JaD, I love your avy.
Thanks

I'm sure we'll get some more educated and post elementary level reviews in the next week or so  :hehe: I'm curious how most critics are going to rank it compared to X3.
