• Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version.

CD Projeckt Red Cyberpunk 2077

I look forward to coming back to that world, hopefully in a year or two with the GOTY edition with all story DLCs/expansions included.

Also, they released the official mod tool today so the game can now have Skyrim-level of mods. :mrk:

Finally getting around to playing this.

Me during the first three hours of the game:

Is the game still dogs*** on last-gen systems?
Really wanna play it but still havent been able to get a ps5

I technically own the PS4 disc copy but I upgraded to the PS5 version before I started playing it so that's the only version I know. There are still some slight glitches here and there but it plays fine. It was always my intention to wait for the PS5 version once the kinks were (mostly) worked out and it's probably the best call to make.

I can't imagine playing this game on console. So much of the atmosphere comes from the ray-traced lighting, without that it would feel like an entirely different game (and that's not even mentioning all the bugs). It's practically a crime that the next-gen versions didn't include ray-traced GI or even reflections.

The next gen (well, current gen) ones do have a ray tracing mode.

Huh. My understanding was it did reflections. Well that sucks.
That image I showed above wouldn't look any better with raytracing on console because the lighting doesn't improve. The shadows would be slightly more accurate, but there'd still be that weird glow. And the hit to performance to me isn't worth it.

Frame rate effects the experience a lot more than ray tracing. And the above screenshot looks like an HDR vs SDR issue.

I also think that next-gen screenshot may be from before the big update? It definitely looks better than that on my Series X

Obviously performance is a big deal. I played exclusively on console until 2020, and never had an issue with 30fps before. I didn't even know what framerate was until 2018. But now going back to 30 feels unplayable to me, it's amazing how much input lag gets added by just 16 milliseconds of frame time.

Anyways, while I would tend to agree that framerate is very important, in a game like Cyberpunk where the raytracing is so transformative I'd probably take the lower performance if it got me the PC experience on console. Unfortunately like so many other raytracing games there's only the bare minimum available. Character models in shadow will always have that weird glow because games don't do indirect lighting well without raytracing. Metro Exodus is probably the only game where the raytracing is worth anything (that isn't a console exclusive). That's another title where the change in lighting is transformative, even with the exact same geometry. It truly looks next gen with RTGI.

I couldn't find any decent screenshots, but here's a comparison video that illustrates what you gain in Cyberpunk with raytracing on PC:

And here's a couple comparison's between the RT & performance modes on console. Like I said, you get more accurate shadows, but it's pretty subtle and has no affect on the overall lighting:

Finally decided to dig in and beat the game after the newest update, and had a really great time with this, Night City is a beautiful game world and I really loved all the side quests, the main quest does feel like it ends somewhat abruptly though, was taken back a bit when I got the point of no return notice. Definitely looking forward to the DLC to spend more time with this world. Hopefully the next game doesn't have as rough of a journey and is a great game out of the gate.

It's a shame any future games won't be made in the RED Engine. I wonder how much effort and time it'll take to port things over to UE5, and if it'll even be possible to hit 60 on consoles.

Good to hear that you enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to jumping in years after release with the game massively improved from launch.

For any sequel, better to not do cross-gen and also don’t release till it’s working.

I may pick this up when I buy Cyberpunk 2077 itself now that I hear it's more or less what they claimed it would be at release. Still lower on my playlist though.

even Cyberpunk at release I'd honestly contend is pretty underrated, just janky as balls.

It's got my personal recommendation, it's a solid game especially now

I waited until the PS5 version was ready to go to play it and it was pretty much fine. I'm a little on the fence about the DLC but more Keanu and the addition of Idris Elba is pushing me towards it.
