Logan Dafne Keen as X-23

The film is continuing to defy expectations. While Logan is the rare superhero project that doesn't exist to help set up a shared universe or sequels, a spinoff is brewing ("We're just working on a script," Mangold says of a film that would center on Dafne Keen's Laura). And it has emerged as a possible awards contender.

"Patty's success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there's less to fear with a female protagonist," says Mangold. "The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, 'Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That's incredible. And what are we going to do with her?' And that's where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming."

As Fox gears up to release three X-Men films next year, the studio has signaled interest in exploring the Marvel mutants through different film genres. April's New Mutants is being positioned as a horror film, for example, and a Laura spinoff could potentially branch out from the western-noir-tinged Logan.

If Marvel kept Dafnee Keen for some more X-Force that'd be pretty damn epic.

Anyone wondering what Dafne Keen Fernández has been up to since Logan and the above tweets.
She has been quite busy.

Not that familiar with the material, but this looks fun.

If her X-23 didn't already, this (Lyra Belacqua (oddly enough another orphan character with powers)) will likely get her even more attention. Hopefully Disney/Marvel hasn't dropped this, and comes up with a script and go-ahead by the time this wraps, or something for her to shoot between seasons.

Honestly they should have already used her in DP2 as the angry volatile kid he has to protect, instead of that "fire fist" kid.
Also he could have played the 4th wall break- I asked for Wolverine, I got this instead! -shtick.

Hopefully this inevitably comes to fruition.

Dafne Keen Fernández is looking even more like X-23

Time for that promised spin-off.
Now that the parallel universe officially exists x'd-over, they can continue it.
Mangold and Craig Kyle were working on it, till the Disney buy out.

Not another Wolverine movie.
[checks title of thread]
Pretty sure in her continuity he's still dead.
And if she's crossing over into DPs? However that plays out, I'd imagine her hypothetical movie would follow her, not Wolverine.

Marvel's Wolverines - After the events of Secret Wars, Laura Kinney (Dafne Keen) has taken over the title of Wolverine from Logan (Hugh Jackman). Her first mission in this new reality is to rescue her "siblings" Gabby and Daken, who are being held captive by the powerful Ten Rings crime organization and their mysterious leader Xu Wenwu.

I would cringe if they announce a film like that.

"Get enough Wolverine? Here's four of them!"

I do hope we see more of Laura though.
As far as coming back:
"I would love to come back. I would pay them to come back. Playing Laura has been the biggest honor of my life. To me, we've only scratched the surface with her since she's such a complex character. She's so cool, just from a fan's standpoint." - Dafne Keen Fernández
As far as the character's continuity:
"'They [Shawn and Ryan] had an answer for everything. [I said], "So how long has it been, am I Variant, what's going on?...They were like, 'Not a Variant. You went along with the kids for a few years and then you got zapped. You've been in the TVA for a few years now. You lost your accent because you were in America for a while. You're a very intelligent kid, you learned English when you were with Logan...to you, you are Logan's Laura so seeing this person again is, 'Whoa, this is my dad who I haven't seen for years.'" - Dafne Keen Fernández

A new X-23 film with Mangold is still the thing I'd be most hyped for from Marvel. Really hope we still get that movie eventually, even if it has to be adjusted to fit into the MCU.

Unlikely to happen.

X-23 is still technically Wolverine.
Is she, in this U?
They still showcased her as X-23, right alongside Wolverine as himself, and they both crossed, so there is no conflict there.

So far she only wore civilian outfit; denim jacket, jeans, t-shirt, boots (Doc Martin?), clearly meant to evoke her Laura X-23 look and appearance in Logan.
Nobody referred to her as Wolverine.

That said, I do wish for the Void battle scene they had given her more of an X uniform, the all gray or black look, to parallel her father finaly embracing his uniform .

Again , still as X-23, not Wolverine. No conflict there.:cwink: If they chose to continue her presence in the MCU.

Agree, (unless she's going back to that unique timeline) Mangold would have to heavily repurpose whatever he and Craig Kyle had been working on, before the Disney buy out.
Though it's the same character, with supposedly the same experience. Her little group of runaways would have to be addressed, and would definitely lend to whatever catharsis they want to run with.
On one hand she has a version of her father back, on the other she has lost all of them to an alt future?
In this timeline, she could paradoxicly go after (and stop) a variant of those who establish the experiments and manipulation, that led to her own creation.

Doesn't she have claws and healing powers like Logan... like she's literally the female counterpart of the Wolverine.

Yeah I really wish she had got her own suit for that scene as well, the black/grey version would have been perfect, I guess though they wanted to stay true to the "Logan" version which I sort of get too, her putting on her glasses though was a neat moment.

2 films: Staring Dafne Keen Fernandez as Laura

1. Laura X-23: eXiles
Set after Logan - Before DP&W:
Hire Magold & Craig Kyle back; Pretty much following where she (and her group of runaways) ended up after Logan, satisfying whatever narrative sequel Mangold and Craig Kyle were working on (before the Disney buy out), showing how they survived and finally found their place in the world. Ending where she's tragically pulled into the Void. Dealing with that loss, and how she began there.

2. Laura X-23: Out of the Void
Following the events of DP&W:
Now grappling with her new Universe and place within it: On one hand she has a version of her "father" back, yet on the other has lost her family of runaways to an alt (and unknown) future? Yet this "new" timeline, paradoxically offers her an opportunity to finally stop a variant of those who establish the experiments and manipulation, that led to her own creation. And whatever paradoxes ensue.
In this new U, she gets a glimpse of where her kind emerged organically, and are still surviving, where does she fit in?

Then spin her off and bring her into whatever form X-Men or Young Avengers will take, as a regular in the ongoing U. :cwink:

Retire the character in Secret Wars. With the possibility of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine staying after Secret Wars, there's reallyno need to have two characters with identical claws and closely related to each other.

Well except Hugh will likely only appear in big event crossover movies while Dafne would probably be willing to appear pretty much anywhere.

Again, I prefer other characters to get the screentime, that are not a Wolverine clone.
