Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" (Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone?)

Saw this last night and it was pretty great. Easy to see why it's receiving all this praise. No, it isn't the greatest film of all time and I do think its biggest flaws are its pacing and repetitive use of the same songs/music throughout, but it's a really enjoyable, well-made film packed with some truly memorable and creative moments.

That was a slight critique from me on the second viewing. There simply wasn't enough music in the movie, or at least enough variety.

Weekend actuals are out, LLL almost $200K higher than estimates. $12,233,928 ( $106,693,300 )

omg i want my money back this movie was not as good as everyone is making it out to be. wtf! so basic. Just boring and slow. I like emma stone but she was nothing special or ryan either. Hate to say it but it's true. Don't understand why they winning so many awards. Maybe the competition is really low this year? idk i don't watch that many movies tbh. I did like the first song though. It was a bop! The rest were too moody imo

Another nail in Ruth Fisher's coffin.

LLL had a $1.1m Friday (0% drop from last Friday) and a $4.1m estimated weekend (down 10% from last weekends holiday boosted number) which puts it at $140.4m domestic right before the Oscars.
It actually added over 170 theaters this weekend, probably from theaters expecting a bit of an Oscar boost this week.

I am entitled to my opinion thx

LLL opens #1 in Japan with a $5m opening.
That may not sound like a lot, but Japan is a leggy market where 10x OW are common.

The last 2 musicals to open in Japan were Chicago, which made $27.4m there from a $2.355m opening andLes Miserables, which did $62.09m off a $3.59m opening.

Oh, and LLL is now at $369m WW, it will easily blow past $400m

I love La La Land, but I think Moonlight deserves the Oscar for Best Picture. I think what will happen is that, the Oscars will create (what I call) the great compromise:

Best director goes to Damien for La La Land, Best Film goes to Moonlight. Both parties win.

okay i kinda changed my mind about the songs after listening to some of them again. Not all of them are moody. some of them are iconic! The first 2 are bops! I also liked the one what emma stone sang in the audition scene, although she cannot sing well. So yes, and also that piano bit is kinda catchy imo

Another Day of Sun is pretty intoxicating.

Epilogue is my favorite, though. Really beautiful compositions there.
