Damon Talks Trek XI

I'm glad Hollywood isn't filled with purist. I think a story about Kirk, Spock and how they all met would be awesome. Matt Damon as Kirk would be perfect. I know j.J. Abrams read that and jumped for joy because with Damon on board the studio will give him the farm!!

I always wanted a DS9 or a Voyager flick...

It was nice to see Janeway as Admiral in Star Trek: Nemesis, though.

This isn't a remake, this is a prequel, they are telling a story about star fleet...star fleet, like I said this is going to be no different then Harry Potter, or X-men Evolution where a bunch of crap happens to this one school, but to bad for them they picked the wrong school...I have no interest in seeing that

If it where some sort of remake, or just an untold story from the enterprise that would be kind of cool, and I was down with that untill I read that star fleet crap

the same people who said they are glad hollywood isn't full of purists created the Fog, and the omen

I doubt it will be anything like that,Damon is way to old for that type of story.

We are not the writers of this, obviously J.J. thinks he has a good idea, so I'm just saying give it a chance, not that it's going be good.

JJ Abrahams. Thats the one thing keeping me the slightest bit interested.

Thats the notion that has been being kicked around. Kirk and Spock in the Academy.

Yeah but the way Longshot put it was as if Damon would be playing a pre pubesent Kirk as opposed to a young Kirk on his first missions ala CR

Well, Hugo Weaving didn't look too shabby in a pair of pointed ears. :woot:

I really despise the prequel obsession Hollywood seems to have now - although I wouldn't mind this film if they were treating it more like they were filling out the gaps between TOS and TMP.

Of course, that whole production design thing with the original series would be a bit of an obstacle to overcome...unless they showed the 1701 in a sort of upgraded 'halfway' stage...

Hugo would make an interesting Spock...I guess he'd be too old for the part though.

Well, if he where in the Academy he wouldn't be on his first mission, so **** would have to come find him

True, but then so is Damon.

Plus, when Nimoy played Spock on TNG, Spock was pegged at being about 150 when Nimoy was only pushing 60, so we know Vulcans don't age quite the same way as humans. :cwink:

Yeah but Hugo Weaving still looks older than Nimoy did back in TOS. So it wouldn't make any sense for him to be supposedly younger.

They should cast some unknowns if they're going to have this take place during their first years at Starfleet Academy. They're only supposed to be 18 or so (if they're 1st year cadets).

It isn't their first mission though. It is them at the academy. Not pre-pubesent, but still...

I can see it now...

Captain Kirk and the Sorcerer's Stone ;)

In the end folks... It's just a movie... I mean after 10 movies, 6 tv series, and an endless supply of books, comics, and video games, how much do you want... Out of the 10 movies, I'd say the only one truely awful is Star Trek 5 and even that is enjoyable and memorable for various things... Insurrection has it good spots as well and Nemesis isn't half bad...

I never liked ST, so I doubt I will have interest to this onem :down

Really? I think the only good ones are Undiscovered Country, Wrath of Khan, and of course the best of the bunch First Contact.

Are you talking about as movies where I don't factor in the geek? Then yeah, that's about right, your forgetting Voyage Home which is also good. But I'm a geek, so when it comes to geek movies I can over-look most faults unless there glaring, I like all the Star Trek movies, just like I like most of the Bond films. I mean the opening scene in Star Trek 5 was great, or the fact that it has Spock brother, but hte movie is terrible. Star Trek 3 is cool, for the bits of Kirk lamenting his dead son or Christopher Loyd as a klingon, Star Trek Generations is cool to see Kirk and Picard team up.

Voyage Home was a bit over the top for me. The entire thing with the whales. ugh.

Well the thing is, I believe I'm younger than you, so a lot of these movies, were made well before I was born so I grew up in the home video era. My dad use to make copies of VHS tapes we rented at his work, and I'd watch all thse movies over and over again, including star wars. So it's a bit nostalgic, when I was a kid I grew up watching Star Trek movies which is part of the reason I like all of them as well, all the silly jokes with chekov, etc I laughed at when I was kid, so it's nostalgic for me.

I wouldn't say the ONLY good ones, I think most are good outsie of Voyage Home, and Nemisis is pretty rough. Even inssurection is decent, it is basically a really expensive two part episode which is what I don't like about it, where as First Contact is it's own entity, and Wrath of Khan etc.

Nah, I say Adrian Brody for Spock.

How about no one for Spock.

How about new cast, new ideas, and moving forward.

I loved them all, except the the original movie.
OMG, that movie sucked. It was boring as hell, and it was a "WTF?" movie to the core.
