Very nice

love the gesture and line work

Her head seems a bit big

But great nonetheless

Thanks KAD.

Spot on about the head. I have now fixed the original picture.

Damn, that's pretty nice!

Dan, didn't you have an older account here?

Yeah but I forgot the password and the email account is inactive.

Thanks Shinlyle!

looks great!... again, welcome to the boards!

I'm trying to get the pencils as good as I possibly can before I try and colour it. Here is the latest version.

Thanks - It fits better smaller and on the wider shoulders. I also made the eyes smaller which I think really helps make her less cartoony.

Really great Supergirl. I like how you made her look young without making her look like a caricature. It really looks like you could pinpoint her age. Most artists just draw a supermodel with big eyes and say it's Supergirl, but this has a much more vivid feel to it.

(And my guess for the age is 18. Th frame and face just look like an 18 year old's.)

Thanks Keith. That is a really good compliment! I definitely try to draw her as a teenager. She should never look fully grown - I don't like it when people draw her like a 30 year old with grotesquely big boobs.

Here she is coloured.

that IS rather good. the changes made to the head and eyes were very well adapted.
The only problem i have with the piece is that the way her chest is, well... (positioned?) it looks as though she's not really wearing a costume. There would be some sort of constriction on her chest due to the clothes. it may just be that the shading conforms around her breasts showing the shape a little too much. Maybe i'm over analyzing. I'm not sure.

It really is a great piece, though. very expressive pose.

Thanks Syncos. Glad you like it and thanks for the comment on the pose. It took me alot of trial and error to get it right and get the expression I was after. The chest area is shading which could be too heavy. BUT The female form is a beautiful thing and I don't like constricting it too much. ;)

Here is my next piece - more of the same but a more dynamic pose.

You're right, my friend. The female form is probably the most beautiful thing in the world. However there's a line to be walked around looking realistic. Even if the fabric is really loose fitting, there'd be fold lines. I think the thing that struck me about your last piece is that it basically looks like she's wearing body paint. (not that there's a problem with that.)

You've got a fantastic grasp of anatomy from what I can tell. Something's up with her right hand (screen left). i think it's an issue of the wrist and the ball of her hand. As for more dynamic. I don't know. It's definitely expressive. I'd like to see some of your work as a little more dynamic though. I'm not sure if you're using reference or not. If not, then you've got a strong grasp of anatomy, and you might be able to push that into something that's a little more (i hate to use the term) exaggerated. posing and depth.

I'm so not the person to be giving this speech. I need to follow my own advice. Then again. I don't have as good of a grasp of anatomy as you seem to have. I really can't express how much I love what you're doing. I'd just love to see you push yourself when it comes to perspective, etc.

I've lost my point to a tangent. Sorry.

Thanks man. It is great that you are wanting me to push myself further. There is definite room to fix this drawing. The first piece was done with no reference and I ended up having to do a whole bunch of fixes which taught me a lot about anatomy. This second piece I did using a still frame from a video which was cool as I was allowed to see the figure move also. I think I need to develop a good base to work from and I am trying to go for more realism at the moment. I'm starting figure drawing classes again soon so that should help a lot. I'd love to get really expressive and put more action into my art.

Thanks for all your comments - I'll keep posting more stuff.

I do like to add folds on the fabric but can't help but use the sprayed on effect to show muscles and curves. Most of my favourite artists do this so I've learnt it from them. I don't want to neglect the clothes at all tho. I like to start with the figure shape and get more of the costume in a bit later.

Very expressive Dan. I really like that. Vast improvement on the hands, too.
Rock on, man.

Check out the updates! I've added Streaky as I think it helps her pose and eyes. Plus it is a fun think to draw a cat in a cape.

I have seen my cat sprawled out asleep on my sofa in this very pose many times!

Having a photographic memory is going to cause even more envy than the drawing :P

Here is the coloured version. Let me know what you think.
