Sci-Fi Dan Trachtenberg to direct Predator film ‘Badlands’

She's got to be an android.

I kind of like the idea of Thia being an android. The Predator in this movie is an outcast, and Thia being an android will give her an outcast vibe and otherness as well. I hope that kind of makes them almost like kindred spirits or opposite sides of the coin.

Okay this looks rad.

As much as I enjoyed the gritty realist worlds of Prey and the original Predator, I’m also down for a bats***-crazy alien world adventure with a Predator as the protagonist. It looks like an awesome video game and I mean that as a compliment. And Elle Fanning is great in everything. Ticket sold.

I don't love the CGI face design either but other than that this looks pretty awesome and the concept has me sold alone and Elle Fanning is obviously a plus.

I just love the idea of a Predator as the main character fighting not only other Predators but other alien creatures as well. I definitely feel like we are slowly building up to a proper AVP movie coming down the line and that gets me excited.

Hopefully, they get Trachtenberg on board to direct that one as well or someone just as talented.

I mean, you can see the W patch on her shoulder.
Her eyes also roll back with the logo.
Just like in Alien: Romulus. They’re definitely teeing up some sort of future crossover.
I think so.

That design and whole presentation of the ID4 Aliens still freaks me out. The idea of a Predator running amok in one of their hive stations or home world just makes me smile, I don't care how dumb it seems to connect the franchises!
I never really thought about it, but the idea of a Alien vs. Predator vs. ID4 would definitely be something. The aliens from ID4 definitely like something you could put in the same world as the first two and they wouldn’t feel out of place.

Also, it would be good to have another writer and director with a fresh set of eyes and offer a really good quality and fresh take on that particular franchise after that last huge bungle of a film.

This looks fantastic . Trachtenberg really is on a roll. I thought the CGI face looked pretty good, I’m looking forward to seeing more of it and see how expressive it can get. Love that Elle Fanning seems to be playing a Weyland cyborg. Anyway what a terrific idea for a Predator movie that also looks to be well executed. Really looking forward to this and Killer of Killers.

If AvP is coming down the line, and the idea of a Predator protagonist works, Monolith's AvP2 is a great place to start off. The Marine and Pred stories were awesome, and the way they interconnected worked.

AvP: Android versus Predator

Let's ****ing go!

Speaking of AvP. As I understand it, the original comics were really good, right? And the movies were of course not based on those at all? Do you think there’s a chance that if they try it again, they’ll actually base it on the thing people actually liked or is that too much to hope for?

Trachtenberg being in charge of it would give me hope. The AvP novels/Comics had good stories, at the very least they would be action packed spectacles.

Yeah after Prey (and this if it’s as good as it looks), this is Trachtenberg’s franchise. No one else should go near it until he decides to move on.

Don’t even let Shane Black set foot on set lol. He lost all his Predator privileges.

Crazy how he had a hand in the first one and gave us...THAT.

His movie would've been fine if it wasn't a Predator movie.

I think that little tidbid is why everyone had complete faith in him and then you realize he actually did VERY little and you realize we were just duped.

Well, more than that he directed two great movies (Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang and The Nice Guys), let alone writing some of the greatest 80s action films along with his writing partner Fred Dekker who gave us some of the greatest cult films of the 1980s (Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad). It should've been a slam dunk.

That said, I still find it more interesting than Predators which wipes from my mind the minute it's over.

Really makes me wonder what exactly he did on the first Predator because something isn't clicking.

IMHO it sounds like Shane Black was their on-set writer and punched things up when they needed it and that's why he was hired as part of the cast.

For years, I've gotten the sense that Shane Black hated and resented Predator and thought it was stupid. Hence, The Predator being so farcical.

That's annoying cause the movie was definitely a farce...best way to describe it.

Still a better idea than Independence Day: Resurgence, to be honest.

Though realistically, the ID4 aliens probably wouldn't be much of a threat to a Predator. Will Smith was able to KO one with his bare fist and he didn't even look like he put much force into the punch, AND that was with the alien still in its protective exoskeleton armor. :o
