Sci-Fi Dan Trachtenberg to direct Predator film ‘Badlands’

That's annoying cause the movie was definitely a farce...best way to describe it.

I was so curious of how someone can be so out of touch with The Predator and Iron Man franchises that I bought the Blu-ray for both and watched the commentary with him and his buddy. You find out soon a lot of the stuff he directs starts with “wouldn’t it be cool if…”. Guy really has no clue and just seems like a goofball.

Predator or no, magic autism makes that movies trash.
Haven’t seen the entire film, but from the little clips I’ve seen of it, as someone who is a level 2 on the autism spectrum, autism is not some mutation and superpower or the next stage of human evolution. I mean, sure, it sort of makes you process and see the world a bit differently, but it’s also something that you have to really learn to get used to and manage.

If anything, depending on who has it or what level they have, unless you know how to deal with it or handle it, it can make living with it very difficult. And, once you have figured that out, those issues don’t automatically go sway. You just learn how to navigate them better. I didn’t until maybe around 5-10 years ago, maybe in my early 30s. It’s like walking, riding a bike or learning to read, but with a few extra steps. We’re not mutants. We’re not gonna be recruited by Professor Xavier to join the X-Men or anything.

But, sure, if being introverted, not being naturally social and being awkward is a superpower, then I’m f**king Scarlet Witch. :funny::funny::funny:

I never truly jumped on the Shane Black train so was probably the only one a bit cautious when he did The Predator. But yes, the movie was a disaster apart from the odd bright moment.

Looks visually impressive and a bold direction, I thought Prey was amazing but I appreciate Trachtenberg going in a fresh direction as opposed to the easy route of a direct sequel.

So is the Predator going to in full ugly mother****er mode for the entire movie? Or is he going to get his cool mask?

So Thia is an android right? Or a human with cybernetic implants?

This looks awesome, though, can't wait. I love the premise. It looks like a Dark Horse story come to life.

She's gotta be an android, the way her eyes flicker, reminds me of something from another movie I want quite place right now.

They created a Predator language for the film:

“That’s one of the cool things of the movie, is that, outside of very brief glimpses in other films, we’re on Yautja Prime, what is known as Yautja Prime mainly from extended universe stuff. There’s a lot in this movie that is more from the extended universe than is from things that are properly in the movie,” Trachtenberg detailed at a press event, which ComicBook attended. “I should mention the language. We, insanely, decided to really treat that properly and worked with, we reached out to the guy who does the Na’vi language [in Avatar], who was very occupied, and recommended his mentee. We did it the way that, for The Lord of the Rings, you would do Elvish, for Game of Thrones, you do Dothraki. Except for those, there’s more precedent, for us, there’s very little.”

He continued, “As we discovered, with him being a language expert, all the stuff, and frankly, actually working with [Predator special effects artist] Alec Gillis, all the stuff that you’ve seen in other Predator movies is complete garbage. There’s no sense of it. People from the Internet have tried to make sense of it, but none of it was made with intention.”

They created a Predator language for the film:
The fact that they even went out of their way to get someone who worked under the guy who created a bunch of languages for things like LOTR and Avatar shows how committed to this they are.

The more I see of Dan Trachtenberg’s work and what he has to say about his filmmaking process, the more my respect and admiration for him goes up. He just seems to be one of those filmmakers that just really seems to know what he wants, gets super locked in and executes it the way he envisioned. You don’t get that a lot nowadays with big studio blockbuster film directors.

He’s become one of my favorite directors to the point where I will pretty much watch anything he does and know I’m getting quality because of the amount of thought and work he puts into everything he makes.

Maximillian Dood also pointed out something interesting for the lead Predator in this story. He has a broken tusk in the same place as the Broken Tusk character from the Dark Horse Alien vs. Predator comics.

More to my point that Trachtenberg is basically giving us the Dark Horse comic adaptations we've always wanted to see.

Having Dek become Dachande would be such an awesome way to actually give us the DH AvP storyline.

I don't really have any strong opinions over the Predator movies, but I do really like the new directions Dan Trachtenberg is taking this thing. Like, it doesn't bother me that is widely different from the original films. Don't know what the general consensus is around Predator fans.

I think my biggest issue is with the CG. Nothing beats the practical effects work by Stan Winston from the original. They've been struggling to match that ever since.

The CG was Prey's weakest aspect.
