Danny Cannon to direct and executive produce "Gotham" Pilot.

Solid TV director.

Here's hoping that the story and acting will be decent.

I'll give it a try, but I'm starting to wonder if these superhero shows without superheroes (like Agents of SHIELD) can work.

But at least here, Batman won't be casting a shadow over everything since he doesn't exist yet.

Does sort of make me wonder who the villains will be though.

As a lifelong Batman fan I am very much looking forward to seeing how this series pans out. Weirdly right across the world 'police procedural' drama is immensely popular, this one's USP will be the focus on James Gordon, and familiar Batman enemies will feature, I'm curious to see which ones.

Will the Waynes' murder just be the pilot story or will the investigation spread into an arc? Will it be part of the new DC Cinematic Universe?

For ages I've wanted to see a good live-action Batman TV Series based upon the post-Crisis comics. After Batman 66 the closest we got was Birds of Prey, which was quite enjoyable.

Dare I say it but TBH I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this! I look forward to casting - they tart filming in March so hopefully news is just around the corner.

Very excited for this project.

Pretty much a none starter for me. if they use most of Batman's villains before batman I'll be annoyed. If they don't where's the story? I guess you could still have some of the Mos bosses but anything else just wouldn't work for me.

They really should have just made the show 'Gotham Central'. I have no idea why they didn't.

They could use Falcone and the other mob families.

I would like them to use the Cobblepots. Maybe the parents to the Penguin can be the big crime bosses of Gotham during this time.

One of the best parts of Batman is that sheer volume of non-fantastic super villains he has in his rogues' gallery. Seriously:

Crime Families

-Falcone
-Maroni
-Vitti (they could add to Gordon's connection to Chicago, as they are based there.)

Mobsters/Industrialists

-Rupert Thorne
-Sal Valestra
-Roland Dagget
-Powers Family
-Buzz Bronski
-Cobblepots
-Roman Sionis (Pre Black Mask).

The Muscle

-Victor Zsasz
-Deadshot

They could explore the corrupt police officers:

-Loeb
-Flass
-Branden

In the background, they could have characters such as Hugo Strange advertising his practice (or perhaps even having a talk show,) Mayor Hill, Leslie Thompkins, and so on.

Bullock and Montoya need to be in this.

Because it's solely about Gordon.

That's a "what", not a "why". Obviously, a Gotham Central series wouldn't be about Gordon non-stop. The question is, why they decided to go this kind of circuitous route for a premise.
