Darksiders 2

Wondering why it was only $20, I guess. I figured it was an old title or something, but then I found out it's brand ass new.

Just wondering if anyone else has heard about that pricing or if the guy at my store was either mistaken or full of crap. Or if I maybe misheard.

I'm wondering if the guy might have said "too" instead of "two". Like, "Yes, we have The Darkeness 2 for $20. We have Darksiders too, as well." or something.

Hmm, that's also a great point. I'd go back and ask but it was like an hour drive lol.

Darksiders II gameplay demo:

This looks absolutely fantastic! I can't wait to play it.

Fellow Darksiders fans, I'm playing through the first game at the moment, and I'm just wondering what was your favorite dungeon in the game?

Also, during my replay of the game, I've noticed that it has some really bizarre scaling. Like, when War is standing beside a car he looks like he's 8 feet tall, but when he's inside a building standing in a normal doorway, he looks like a dwarf or something.

That's a good question. I really liked the circumstances that led you to the spider temple but I really loved the ash desert area. I swear, there was more variety to those dungeons than a Zekda game

The thing that I really appreciate about them, and I'm definitely not knocking Zelda, but I really like how they feel natural and make sense in the environment. You know? Like, for example, the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time is this weird church thing arbitrarily placed at the bottom of the lake, whereas in Darksiders, their water dungeon is a flooded subway system.

Yeah, agreed. And you don't just go there in a linear fashion, you have to find the 'Black Hammer' which leads to you meeting Ulthane, fighting him, then fighting with him, then doing something for him etc. It's just a great way of telling a story and DS 2 seems even better.

New info a dev posted on NeoGAF:

- Confirmed no tearing in PS3/X360 version of the game. X360 gets the game on one disc.
- Diablo 3 Hardcore mode is in [under the name of Nightmare Mode]. One death in combat = permanent death and total loss of campaign progress.
- MAGs are in. Possessed Weapons [rare&unique weapon lootz] must be fed with other random items to enable them to level up and gain more abilities and damage.
- Trading of items between players is in.
- Fast Travel. You can go into your map and instantly teleport to any location that you previously visited.
- New Game+ is in. You keep all your loot, enemies gets tougher and you gain % to find new tier of weapons which can have exclusive NG+ attributes.

Have to admit, I didn't really get into the first Darksiders too much. Don't really know why, it just didn't jive with me. THIS, however, is my cup of tea. This game looked spectacular. Will more than likely be picking this up on release day.

Vigil: Darksiders 3 depends on Darksiders 2 sales, could be smaller in scope

Haydn Dalton, lead designer on Darksiders 2 at developer Vigil Games, has some interesting ideas for Darksiders 3 – if THQ decides to greenlight a sequel. If Darksiders 2 is successful, Dalton told VideoGamer, it's unlikely THQ would have Vigil shift development to another franchise.

Specifically, if Darksiders 2 manages to sell "4 or 5 million units," he said, THQ president Jason Rubin would likely want a sequel, though he might expect Vigil to "reduce the scope so that we can make it even higher polished." Doing so would give the game more focus, said Dalton.

Building a smaller open world with more detail isn't necessarily a bad thing – it worked wonders in Rocksteady's Batman games. A smaller world certainly wouldn't hurt THQ's unstable bottom line. It's also worth noting that 4 million units of any game is no small feat. To put things in perspective, Saints Row: The Third, one of THQ's most successful games, managed to ship 4.25 million units in roughly seven months.

Darksiders 2 launches August 14.

That part about 3 happening due to it depending on the sales of 2 is obvious. I'm sure they'll pull it off. What a way to put pressure on a studio though.

It's absurd that games need to sell 4-5 million copies to be considered successful and warrant sequels. The industry really needs to change their expectations. Not every game is a financial juggernaut like CoD has become.
