Darksiders 2

I could definitely see Ubisoft buying the Darksiders ip or Thq holding onto it til they get their financials straightened out

I could see Vigil getting bought as they seem to be a pretty talented studio, but I think it would be a long time before we ever saw Darksiders again.

Man you almost brought me to tears with that. and i mean it literally. Well the thing is Ubisoft and some others have expressed interest in buying parts of THQ. some of it might be Vigil it's self . I'm just being hopeful man. it's possible if that happens, what was done for sleeping dog's with square picking up the ip will be done for Vigil and the Darksiders series . Don't take our hope away man. Let's just wait and see for the time being.

It's the sad reality of the situation though. You're more likely to see Vigil get dissolved and other companies hire their employees. I hope it's not the case since the franchise has a lot of promise if its handled by a better company.

I just said this in the marvel MMO thread
I just found out Joe mad of Darksiders fame is back at marvel.

I 'd like to see him take up the role that Jim lee has over at DC for video games at marvel since he has experience in that area more so then the people currently there. and they only seem to think MUA is the way to go since their limited in that capacity cause I'm sorry their not really gamers. well if marvel was smart about this that is.

Everything Darksiders for $13.19 on Amazon

No, "Everything Darksiders" isn't the name of a new apocalypse-themed cookbook from THQ, although that would be pretty sweet. What we're saying, if you'd listen for five minutes, is that Darksiders, Darksiders 2 and 11 pieces of Darksiders 2 DLC can all be purchased from Amazon as a Darksiders Franchise Pack for $13.19.

There is a catch of course, which is that the pack is A) download only and 2) PC only, so anyone without Windows and some phat pipes is in for a struggle. For everyone else though, this sale could at least facilitate an ironic way to ride out Friday's end of the world.

alright two things for this one you know that more cheery and I hope does happen.

first the bad news

Nordic Games still working out plans for Darksiders, other THQ assets

Four months after parting with $4.9 million to pick up a number of big ex-THQ properties, Austrian-based Nordic Games is still working to finalize its transaction with the now-bankrupt company. If you were looking for announcements at Gamescom - as Nordic Games hoped to have - on the futures of Darksiders, MX vs. ATV, Titan Quest, and Red Faction, you may have a fair while to wait - although not necessarily in all cases .

"It takes longer than expected getting everything together because THQ, there are not a lot of people there," explained Reinhard Pollice, the man in charge of business and product development at Nordic. "There are just like five people and they're mostly financial and administration guys. So the stuff that we need is really hard to get. I've been visiting them a lot of times, trying to make sure we get everything that we actually want, or that we should get."

While Pollice said he's a fan of the franchises Nordic acquired, he feels THQ at some point became too big a company to make use of the talents it had; he noted the now defunct company made a lot of bad decisions with Red Faction after Guerrilla, for example. That may explain why he places the shooter franchise lower in Nordic's priority than Darksiders, MX vs. ATV, and Titan Quest, which he sees as first, second and third. That's not to say a new Red Faction isn't coming; Pollice said Nordic is in talks with former Volition members who left the studio over the last four to five years, and that Nordic is still evaluating what to do with the franchise.

Meanwhile, Darksiders remains years, rather than months, away. Pollice said Nordic's been in good discussions with some members of the original Vigil Games Team, but a "certain core" are now at Crytek US and most likely won't be available. Continue Reading

I'm willing to wait. I just want the game to be good. Easily one of the best franchises in recent history

Darksiders series "not dead," but creative director says future remains uncertain

Twe

on 13 May 2014

Darksiders lives, but what that means for the series is anything but clear, according to the action RPG's creative director Joe Madureira. In a followup post on Facebook today, Madureira writes that his comment yesterday about how the Darksiders series "is not dead" doesn't mean its future has been secured.
A remnant of publisher THQ's collapse, the rights to Darksiders were bought by Nordic Games last year. And as Madureira points out, Nordic is ultimately responsible for determining the fate of the series.
"My enthusiastic outlook on the future of the series is in no way a confirmation that it's happening!! (Sorry guys, I hate being a wet blanket!)" Madureira writes. "My post was in response to the countless messages I get from DS fans that are mourning the 'death' of the series or asking me to 'bring it back' (which it's not in my power to do!). Many fans still do not seem to know that the series didn't end with THQ's demise, and that the rights were picked up by Nordic Games. What that means is that a 3rd game is still *possible*. ie. 'It's not DEAD!' And that Nordic seems committed to continuing the series. Again, this isn't a confirmation—just my own positive outlook based on what I gathered from speaking with them."
We liked both Darksiders 1 and 2 for their satisfying approach to hack and slash combat. And while Madureira seems intent to walk back his Monday statement about the still-beating heart of Darksiders, he also sounds pleased with the response to his comments.
"Only Nordic, as the owner of the franchise can make any official decision—or announcement, about the future of Darksiders," Madureira writes. "Not me! So I probably should've chosen my words more carefully. That said, I can't help but see the feverish excitement and support from both gamers and press as an encouraging sign that DS is indeed a beloved series, and that the demand is obviously still there!"

Report: Nordic to publish games under THQ trademark

Nordic Games has acquired the THQ trademark from the now-defunct company, Polygon reported. The mark was purchased in an agreement made outside of the April 2013 property auction following THQ's demise.

Nordic will now have the ability to publish games under the THQ brand. It may do so with the MX vs. ATV series, as Nordic seemingly posted to THQ's official Facebook page following the trademark purchase to remind fans of the return of the racing brand. Nordic Games purchased MX vs. ATV, along with the Darksiders series from THQ. It announced plans in December to publish MX vs. ATV Supercross in the first half of this year.

Vigil Games "core team" reforms (again) as Gunfire Games

Andy Chalk at 17:43 on 08 August 2014
Darksiders studio Vigil Games came to an untimely end in the wake of THQ's collapse, and yet it didn't: Instead of purchasing the studio, Crytek left it to wither and die, then hired a big chunk of its staff for its Austin-based Crytek USA. Now its happening again, as Crytek USA has been vastly downsized in the wake of Crytek's move to free-to-play, but the Vigil team is sticking together under yet another new name

Is there any chance Nordic Games could hire Airship Syndicate or Gunfire to develop Darksiders 3?

I mean, shouldn't the guys who helped build the first two games work on a possible third game?

that's what he's been trying to do the entire time but there's been Nordic so much turn over with them with half being bought out by crytek USA & the other half being taken by other dev's studio's just to have jobs at all prior to this. Now that each of the half's have their own studio's he should be able to contact ether of them with interference . He said he want the makers back.

what should be asked now is if ether of know that Nordic Games has been trying to contact them ? crytek usa wanted them to work o titles they had i the works like the more recent hunt & Ryes before that all happened be they didn't tell them about Nordic. Any way both of these studio's were just created. hope

Amazon has gone up with a number of unannounced game listings from Nordic Games.
Find the list below. The Legend of Kay and Arcania listings correlate with the previous Amazon Germany listings. For Legend of Kay, which was previously listed for Wii U and PC, Nordic confirmed the game’s existence with Gematsu, but said it did not wish to share further details about additional platforms. We now know that PlayStation 4 will be one of them.
Thanks, NeoGAF.

well, since I never played the Darksiders game, I'd welcome a PS4 remaster of Darksiders 2 at least.

Shame they're not Definitive Editioning the first one too.

I dont quite get the rationale behind doing remasters for games that didnt sell well to begin with. People didnt care for it then; why would they now? At least within the first year of the new consoles, the library wasnt huge, so it made more sense, but now? I dont see this definitive version faring any better than the original especially since there is actual competition coming out on a regular basis

They're low effort and cheap to make. Actually, I think a title that sold on the lower side of expectations is probably pretty prime for the remaster treatment, it's an easy way to try and get more from a title without putting in a lot of time or effort. Especially if it's a franchise that the company hopes to continue with.

I dont know. The Sleeping Dogs remaster didnt do all that well. Popular titles fare better bc people actually do rebuy stuff if its something they loved and theres that word of mouth. I bet the upcoming Dark Souls 2 remaster does well. Darksiders though? Seems like an odd choice. Would have made a bit more sense had it been announced alongside DS3
