Darkwing Duck

You know what I can't wrap my mind around: Launchpad lives with Drake, he's seen with him all the time, but he doesn't have a crimefighting alter ego at all... and all the villains know who he is. What's the point of even maintaining the pretense of Darkwing having a secret identity if that's the case? Does this not bother anyone else?

You do have a point but I guess the writers were stupid of doing that

1) A great aspect of the show is how it is a spinoff o Ducktales
2) Bushroot is my least fav. villian possibly ever
3) He's definatley a golden age sandman tribute... double breasted suit with a gas gun and all.
4) Another great aspect: Goslin had the same voice actor as chucky from rugrats.

Darkwing Duck as a series is a hodgepodge of superhero/spy/sci-fi concepts. But lots of the characters have 2 layers to them, a visual concept and a character concept. Visually DWD is the Crimson Avenger (who himself is a transparent Shadow aping) as a duck. But his gear is mostly Batman with a little Sandman thrown in. He uses a gas gun (like Sandman, but that was probably so that they could keep CA's gun motif without giving him guns ), but the gas gun has the functionality of Batman's untility belt. He also has a lot of Batman esque kit. Including DWD versions of the Batcycle, Batwing, and Batcave. He also has Batman's dead boring normal guy alter ego.

Launchpad in DWD is like an adult Jimmy Olsen. Goeslyn is like Dick Grayson. Even though they turn her and her buddy Honker into Green Arrow and Speedy. Stegmutt is a lot like a happy-go-luck Hulk. Gizmoduck he's like a goofy Ironman. Morgana Macawber looks like a conbination of Lilly Munster and Mortitia Addams, but her character is all Zatana. Neptunia is Aquaman/Namor, but she actually looks like a fish person.

The villians are less complex
NegaDuck=Professor Zoom (in concept anyway)
Liquidator=Hydroman
Quackerjack=Joker
Bushroot=Poison Ivy
Megavolt=Electro
Steelbeak=combination of James Bond villians (Jaws and Emilio Largo specifically)

Bushroot reminded me more of the Lizard in personality: a scientist turned evil because of his invention. Funny that in a cartoon there was such a tragic figure.

It was a parodic element. DW had an alternate identity because he had to, and it was only efficient because it was an alternate identity. One has to wodner if anybody 9friends or foe) really cared about DW's real identity. Once, DW got unmasked, and Megavolt simply forgot the name of the unmasked DW! Hilarious.

Darkwing Duck was my favorite series, it was part of the Disney Afternoon, my favorite villian was Megavolt.

Which is something Mike Grell put into Green Arrow in the late 80's. Not in the comedic vein that DW used it. I LOL'ed though. When the Seattle PD detective tells him, "That mask doesn't cover much, plus there's that beard." :woot:

Having a double identity is often absurd in superhero stories, and Darkwing Duck played this absurdity.

I don't always find it absurd. Depends on the character. DWD is actaully not that absurd, unlike Superman he actually wore a mask.

Does anyone here ever wondered what Drake occupation was? It was never given in the show and viewers wondered how he had money to pay the rent,supplies,food,etc lol

in one episode dd ended up inthe real world depicted by a live action animated segment that the people talking to him did just that:ninja:

Yea, I liked Darkwing Duck too. Is it just me or did DW resemble more of a german Shepherd then a duck?

DW plays on the often absurd notion of a double identity, but yes, at least (unlike Superman) he wears a mask.

Because it would be nearly impossible to keep such a double identity. Darkwing Duck plays with it, because although his way to conceal his identity is absolutely inefficient, it somehow works. As if wearing a mask was enough.
