Darthphere's House of Style: From Geek to Chic.

So you basically wear the original Enterprise interior.

Definitely not. I hate seeing guys wear them, almost casually.

My wardrobe consists almost entirely of Dickies work shirts. I'm 6'5" and around 300 pounds so regular clothing doesn't fit so good. The nearest big and tall shop is 200 miles away from me and most of those shops carry clothing meant for old dudes or small whales. The dickies shirts are made with an extra long tail for tucking in, but on a giant it fits just right. Sad, I know :(

You all be crazy. Bow ties are the ****. I have like a dozen now. Takes a real man to wear a bow tie.

But then again, I would never wear one casually, say with short sleeves or without a jacket. At least I'd have a cardigan.

That's like saying "real men wear pink"...it still doesn't mean it looks good ;)

Why discriminate an entire section of the color spectrum? Because it's "girly?" Am I not allowed to wear purple either?

I'm not discriminating because I think it's girly...it's just personal preference...I actually don't mind purple on a guy, since I do have a couple of purple shirts :)

Weird, I didn't even submit twice.

I like pink and purple on guys, just not bow ties. Never got into that particular trend...I know some women who are turned off by it. I think it's important to wear what you like, though.

What trend? They've been around since, let me see if I remember, saw it on wikipedia the other day. . . I don't know. Some ancient French people.

Anyhoo, you can't take a look as classic as the bow tie, or say, the mustache, and dismiss it because some hipsters find it ironic. Both the bow tie and the mustache will far outlive hipsters, and on that glorious day, I'll be there.

I don't mind bowties, Id wear one of I had the right suit or look for it...I think only certain people can rock a proper moustache though

I personally don't find moustaches attractive on anybody, but I do admit they suit certain people....Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot just aren't right without their 'staches, for example.

I don't think I would date someone with a moustache though, it's a huge turn-off for me, attraction-wise. Don't know why, just something I really don't go for, like long hair.

I shaved my mustache a few months ago, and everyone told me to never do that again. My face just works with a mustache. Then again, I'm black. I think we have different rules for rocking mustaches.

I'm talking about the current hipster trends. A bow tie with a tux or fancy suit is one thing. A bow tie with a regular shirt and skinny jeans, not so much, at least not for my tastes.

The only ironic thing about hipsters trending toward certain styles is that doing so stops being ironic and starts being a popular trend.

For example:
"I'm wearing this bandanna around my neck ironically."
No, you're wearing it because you've seen other people do it, and it's now popular to do so. Your attempt to be "ironic" by wearing an unpopular and untrendy fashion accessory is itself ironic because you have unknowingly done something very popular and trendy. You have, without even noticing, conformed to a certain group.

In other words: The lack of irony in trying to be ironic is itself ironic. That's why Alanis Morrissette's song makes sense.

Trying and failing to be ironic... is ironic.

only if you do it wearing skinny jeans and a SMedium American Eagle Tee
