is he going to come back as the voice of Abe Sapien?! cuz i've heard from some he is not, and others that he is. i personally think he should come back, not just for continuity's sake, but i think he did an excellent job.

No, David will not be returning as the voice of Abe Sapien. Abe will be voiced by the actor who played him in the first film and who has voiced him in the two HELLBOY ANIMATED films - Doug Jones, who reprises his role as Abe, body and voice, in HELLBOY II.

It's funny, because David Hyde Pierce, as far as I can tell, isn't even credited as the voice of Abe in the first film. Like, I watched the closing credits on the DVD, and never saw his name. And they barely even talked about it in articles and whatnot. I think only genre magazines and websites mentioned it.

DHP refused to take credit for a role he truly felt was Doug's and as such he never promoted the film, never did any interviews and didn't even go to the premier. DHP is one of the last few true gentlemen left in this world.

I agree. I think Doug Jones deserves it. His amazing acting (albeit without his voice) truly made the charcter in the first film. And Ron Perlman supports him taking over (or so I've heard) and that's enough for me.

Thats very honourable and very un-hollywood. Have to salute DHP for that.

Absolutely. Doug will be the first to tell you that his admiration and respect for David is boundless. He is a HUGE fan of David's, and was totally awed by his stance on the decision to do no press at all, he didn't appear at any of the premieres and he refused a credit. David Hyde Pierce is indeed that rarest of creatures, a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

It is a very honourable thing do to, and not something you would expect in the movie industry.

so Doug Jones voiced him in the animated movies?

did he sound similar to how DHP sounded in the first Hellboy?

If you watch the animated movies, you will completely forget that DHP ever voiced Abe.

Has it ever been officially revealed as to why they had David Hyde Pierce dub Doug Jones' voice? I've heard Jones' in the Sword of Storms, and his voice sounds fine, so I really don't get why they felt they needed to dub him.

It's a long and oft-quoted story, so I'll try to keep it brief - Doug voiced Abe all through filming, but knew that the plan was to dub over his voice right from the beginning - he asked to put his name in the hat, along with actors such as Steve Buscemi, Kevin Spacey, and the studio (and GdT) chocie, David Hyde Pierce. Doug and David were the final choices, and Doug did a fantastic job during the looping sessions, but they ultimately went with dear David because he was the better-known actor. Bless his heart, he refused a credit and also refused to do any press for the film. He turned down the animated films, Doug took over, blew everyone away, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Well, i REALLY hate saying this, but i preferred DYP's voice for Abe to Doug's.

^Cool, i dunno, i'm getting more use to Doug's the more i watch HBA, but i still prefer DHP's.

Well, I read on a website that stated that DHP was coming back.

Nope. He's not. That was first mooted by an erroneous report on the Hollywood Reporter, and other sites have just picked it up without checking the facts. Doug's playing ALL of Abe in the sequel.

Damnit, DAMNIT ALL TO HELL!

:p

^What does he say HM, i cant view video's on this computer, and i'm desperate to know!

Just basically that Variety got their info screwed up and put out that DHP was doing the voice and Doug confirms that the info is incorrect. Also that the info had made its way onto the IMDb and that we're in the process of having that removed. That he WILL be voicing Abe, and that he'll be heading out the Budapest within the week.

Which, incidentally, is tomorrow the 16th - it's been moved forward a day.

^Cool, what did he say about a possible HB3?

Oh yeah ... forgot ...he talks about one of his other characters, the Angel of Death (who is a delicious character, BTW), and how one scene - which Doug just loves - infers that we haven't seen the last of the Angel. That came with a Dougie 'big wink' and a kind of 'know what I'm sayin'!!'

To each his/her own. Personally, I perfer Doug doing Abe's voice since this time I won't be expecting Niles to come popping out of a closet or something.
