Bale is playing a musician according to one of his interviews.

ETA:

I’ve heard that Bale’s fellow Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie are being sought for roles, and while I initially heard that Russell’s go-to leading lady Jennifer Lawrence was being courted for the female lead, I’ve since heard that Margot Robbie is the top choice to star opposite Bale. Sources have told Collider that the project’s working title is Amsterdam, and that it will follow the unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer.

I don't think this will get off the ground.

Look at the era we're in. O Russell has been a consummate bully, mostly to women, on all his film sets. And the worst kind of bully too. He wouldn't pull any of his usual stuff with Bale, Wahlberg, Ice Cube, or DeNiro. He goes after who he thinks is weak. And these aren't allegations. They've been proven. Some of them filmed even
And he was accused of groping his niece.
Amazon scrapped his show.

Who thinks this is a good idea?

Sounds like it Is, considering they're casting and filming is set to start in April for New Regency and 20th Century Fox.

I love you Bale, but Jesus...

I'm not into everything Russell does, but Silver Linings Playbook was pretty good, so I'll wait and see if the cast and premise/trailers pique my interest.

Eh, I find it hilarious that he put Nolan in a headlock. Damn shame camera phones weren’t as popular then. I would frame that moment up on a wall.

Bale clearly had no issues with it either, worked with him twice.

True
Maybe I jumped the gun

But I just can't see this ending well. If the movie comes out it's gonna get caught in so much controversy that it's not worth it.

I like O Russell. I love The Fighter and Three Kings. But there are other directors out there

Yeah ultimately, Russell, just like every mediocre-to-good white male director, will continue to get work, despite being a garbage human. The only reason Bryan Singer isn’t landing gigs anymore is because the outcry was pretty loud, but I also wonder if the backlash against him was fueled more by his tendency to disappear from projects and cost studios millions of dollars than his multiple allegations of assault on young boys.

Yeah, I don't think of David O. Russell as a mediocre to good director. He might be an *******, but DAMN, he's talented!

Lubezki is one of my favorites. (despite him working with Terrence Malick)

I can’t imagine them not postponing the production (it was supposed to start in April) but here’s Bale’s “look” for the film (dude, self isolation!). He’s playing a musician based on an interview:

He looks like Dr. Strange. :funny:

If this is postponed, I’m doubtful that the cast remains intact. They’d end up being double booked.

MBJ is not mentioned anymore so I’m guessing he replaced him?

Wow John David Washington is really on the come up as an actor and he is still pretty young. Dude has already worked with both Christopher Nolan and Spike Lee and is now apart of an all star ensemble cast. I'm glad for him, because I do think he's a really solid actor.
