I saw this last night at the 10pm showing and I an happy to say that this movie is GREAT! Prior to Rise I wasn't to familiar or a fan of the planet of the apes franchise but I thought that movie was good. However, Dawn really blew me away and showed me why people love this franchise. This movie has a compelling, emotional, and dark story but filled with fantastic special effects and action. Andy Serkis as Ceaser is phenomal and should get an oscar ( though I doubt he will) for his motion cap work. The other actors that do mo cap work for Koba for example also deserve some praise. The story is good and the human characters are serviceable but they are thinly written and aren't as compelling as the apes. In short this is one of the best movies of the year and well worth seeing 9/10.

This, Edge of Tomorrow, and Snowpiercer are the best summer movies this year. I'm hoping Guardians is as good as I hope to top it off.

There were 2 long takes in particular that I found stunning.

The tank one and Jason Clarke running from room to room.

Also, Giacchino's score is brilliant.

Yeah, those were great. This film was fantastic. I enjoyed the first one, but this is in a class of it's own.

I figured they would call it Birth of the Planet of the Apes.

Why does Kirk Acevedo always play the same character in every movie?

The same reason Michelle Rodriguez does.

By the way, what happened to the other guy who was with Malcolm and his family (the one who was dancing when the music came on at the gas station)? I last saw him when [BLACKOUT]Caesar was shot and he ran away with the rest of them, but if he turned up again, I didn't notice. Was he killed offscreen?[/BLACKOUT]

Got back from this and I really enjoyed it. This and Days of Future Past are tied for my favorite movies of the summer.

Im sure anything good I can say will be repeated 100 times in this thread and around the world. If the world was fair Serkis and Kebell will be nominated for Oscars but I know that wont happen

Only real complain was that the human characters were meh. Not completely uninteresting or just used as devices like in Godzilla, but I feel they didnt have much to do especially outside of Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman to a lesser extent.
I dont get why these movies like DoPotA, Godzilla, or Transformers can't balance the human characters with the main event.

In any case this was great. I recommend it to all

8/10

How much of Serkis' facial movements were incorporated into the CGI? Obviously he was the model for overall movement but what really made Caesar and the other apes believable were the facial reactions.

I wondered the same thing,
they all took off together but my guess was when the main group hid they might of been overwhelmed by the apes who started their march towards the city.

I wondered that too

Movie was simply amazing. A masterpiece and cinematic achievement really. And def is up there with the likes of sequels such as TDK, Empire Strikes Back or Godfather Part 2. Tons of emotion and heart and some truly amazing visuals. Not even just the apes but the cinematography and a lot of the shots and everything were simply beautiful.

Basically this it's not something that really needs explaining. Just put it together in your head that something must have happened to him. Got separated etc. and what was the implication of
koba being alive still? I stayed after the credits and there was nothing really. All I heard was some apes towards the end of the credits making noises.

I knew I was going to like it, but I was definitely overwhelmed by how great it actually turned out. I want time to let it sink in some more but I'm also itching to go again before the weekends over.

I also knew I'd love it. But also didn't forsee it being something this big. Yeah I need a little time before I see it again.

Nah too similar to Rise and Dawn. I would go with War.

Why does it need a more added to the title. IMO if this Franchise was building up to a trilogy why not just call the 3rd Movie Planet of the Apes.

I heard Apes making noise to but at the very end there was something like rocks being moved and I have no idea why they would put that at the end of the credits unless something came out of it.

Both would be an appropriate title for the next film IMO.

Never been especially passionate about this series one way or another, but I loved this movie.

It's moving, thrilling and visually stunning...an ideal summer movie.
This and Godzilla (which a bunch of people may hate but I thought it was great) are the best films of the year thus far imo.

I didn't even hear the rocks, I heard the apes though for sure.

I also loved Godzilla, but pretty much a majority of the boards here hated it. So I try not to bring it up because I know people who hated it are dying to come out and just get in a shot at the film. You shouldn't have mentioned it haha :oldrazz: The Zilla thread is still going and the funny thing is most of the people keeping that thread alive are people that hated the film. So I avoid the thread now cause I can't really discuss how I enjoyed it with anyone else. Because too many hated it.

Didnt realize people here didnt really like Godzilla...

anyway do you guys think the same human characters will return and/or there will be a timeskip
