Denton, Hendricks, LaPaglia lend voices to 'All-Star Superman'

James Denton, Christina Hendricks and Anthony LaPaglia are lending their pipes to Warner Bros.' "All-Star Superman," the animated adaptation of one of the most acclaimed comics of the past decade.

"All-Star" is the 10th DC Comics story line to be turned into an original PG-13 movie by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Home Video. The comic mini-series has won three Eisner Awards, two Harvey Awards and three Eagle Awards.

Written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely, the story begins with the Man of Steel (Denton) oversaturated by radiation during a rescue mission near the sun, accelerating the degeneration of his cells. Knowing that he has a limited time before he dies, Superman sets out on a journey that sees him revealing his secret to Lois Lane (Hendricks), giving Lex Luthor (LaPaglia) an epiphany on humanity and ensuring the safety of Earth for when he is gone.

Also in the cast are Ed Asner as Perry White and Frances Conroy as Ma Kent along with Linda Cardellini, Arnold Vosloo and Matthew Gray Gubler.

Bruce Timm is exec producing, and Sam Liu, who helmed the DC animated film "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths," is directing. Dwayne McDuffie, a comics scribe who also penned "Crisis on Two Earths," wrote the script.

The film is due to be released in the spring.

Figured they wouldn't be able to replicate Quitely's style closely.

Not sure aboout Hendrick's voice as Lois.

This is a really cool cast. I hope they do the story justice.

Christina Hendricks voice is like sex to me.

Finally a Superman DTV with the real thing. This will be epic.

I hope the cover for this looks similar to one of these.

Will the animation be somewhat rough? Like the art style in the comics?
I mean, I know its not rough and choppy or loose looking. But I hope it looks close to the art style.

Really, really, really want this to be good, considering it's one of my favourite comics. But let's face it, McDuffie is hardly Morrisson.

No, not facing that one, homie. McDuffie consistently makes great stuff, and, among other things, is in his element here.

JLA: The Injutice League was absolute Garbage.

I'm being harsh, he's great at what he does best, and this is his forte. However, the success of this book lies in the subtlety and nuance of it all. McDuffie....he ain't so big on subtlety and nuance.

JLA: Crisis on Two Earths is my favorite DC DTV movie so far, so i got my hopes up. I sadly can't really recognize those voice actors, but that should mean i can be very positively surprised! =) Very glad they didn't just try and go all bland getting DCAU actors for "all-star Superman". Gives me optimism they will get a fresh awesome Batman for Year One aswell.

Best one so far to me has been Wonder Woman which was just fantastic.

I just cringe at the thought of tis being dumbed down, and of the things they will have to cut. I worry about the prospect of this being turned into just another all-action adventure, in which case they could have so easily adapted something else.

It doesn't seem like a coincidence to me that the best of the DTV's so far was an adpatation written by the author of the original text. I realise that Morrison doing that in this case would have meant sacrificing one of his upcoming comics, so why not just do something else? Superman for all seasons would be particularly good i feel.

So what is the story with All-Star???

Will this be told in 6 separate stories like Gotham Knight???

Or is this an Origin Story??

Umm.... you could just read the synopsis.

At the top of the page.

Yeah..but i've also read that it has lots of stories combined.

But I do wish..it will be the synopis from above.

I really don't want it to be several stories interlocking like Gotham Knight

I am very glad that we are going to see a Superman that powerful on the screen, since there is absolutely no excuse for an animated series which has no budget restrictions to hold it back.

Bring it on.

I am really hoping this is really good, even better than Under the Red Hood. I hope they even go beyond the 75 minute format to capture the feel and beauty of the story. I'll geek out if they nail Chapter 10, "Neverending".
