Today brings word that a third Deep Blue Sea flick is in the works–and might be swimming directly to Netflix. All of this was gleaned from a new report in Production Weekly.

Notice Netflix is listed as a producer.

The original Deep Blue Sea was directed by Renny Harlin and released in 1999. Deep Blue Sea 2 was a forgettable made-for-TV/straight to DVD affair directed by Darin Scott and released in 2018. You can check out the synopsis and trailer for the later below.

Synopsis:
A shark conservationist is hired as a consultant on a top-secret project on genetically-enhanced sharks, funded by a pharmaceutical billionaire. But soon the highly intelligent super-sharks turn on their masters and begin to pick them off one by one.

At this point they may as well let the sharks walk around wearing lab coats and speaking human

You know, I'd love to see Paul Verhoevan direct one of these. You could make this a satirical horror movie with schlock elements.

There was and it was an almost shot for shot remake of the original with lower standards and effects. And had absolutely no reason to exist. Which is boggling why they would feel a third one was necessary.

But it was hilarious. Squeeling. Baby. Sharks. That churn up the water.

I liked the first movie but as a franchise it just doesn't work like other creature films. Sequels to Anaconda or Lake Placid kinda work because their story formula is simple and not extra like this primise .

This only worked for one film and could maybe work as a tv series. As direct to video sequels, they just waste space on wherever you find them

Deep Blue Sea 2 sucked balls, so I have no reason to expect that this one will be any better. Like IncognitoX just said this just doesn't seem to work as a franchise compared to other creature feature franchises like Anaconda or Lake Placid which honestly isn't saying much considering the majority of those sequels aren't very good either.

How many shark related movies has Syfy already done?

A sequel to the first film could’ve worked if one of the sharks had gotten out into the open ocean. Then it would’ve almost been like a JAWS or The Meg hunting down and trying to stop it.

But as we know the first film ended with the final big shark being blown up just as it was making its way into open water.

When was there a Deep Blue Sea 2?

Yeah it wasn’t half the masterpiece of the original. It was basically a shot for shot remake with like a tenth of the budget.

But maybe this will be the Return of the King of the series?

To many to count. The Sharknados. The Multiheaded Shark movies. Various "noun" Shark. Sharktopi. It is all quite hilarious.

Sharks! There is another thing we need for the Fast and Furious franchise along with Zombies, Nazis (the German kind), dinosaurs, Keanu Reeves, Time travel, outer space, cowboys, ninjas, Vikings and samurai

Ah but they also explained that the sharks are super intelligent so maybe they paid off a dolphin to swim out and act like a shark, the dolphin got blown up, then the sharks swam out when everyone thought they had been made extinct.

I would love them to do a planet of the apes type thing where we see the deep blue sea sharks passing contraband Marxist material to other sharks to inspire them to revolution.

Yeah I would watch that. The rock should also surf on a manta ray

Imagine :funny:

Didn't know there was a part 2. They need to bring LL back so he can look into the camera and say "It's feeding time...again." And he needs to say it with the same lack of acting skills as he did in the original (he's actually a better actor now so ironically he will have to act to do the required bad acting :meanie: )
