The ratings for this year's Oscars were at an all-time low. A Black Panther nomination next year would certainly boost ratings. That being said, Get Out was very successful (not as much as Black Panther, of course) and that didn't seem to bring in many more viewers.
Get Out only brought in about $255 million so that won't move the needle. Black Panther definitely would though, not only for the huge success but for that it's become such a cultural symbol in the US. That it looks to have a far higher domestic percentage of the BO than normal of course makes it even bigger there.
I'd expect it to have to rely on the 6-10 slot nonsense that the Oscars are doing these days to have a shot though, but who knows, it could be a bad film year as well.
