Deserved Oscars nominations of Superhero movies ?

The ratings for this year's Oscars were at an all-time low. A Black Panther nomination next year would certainly boost ratings. That being said, Get Out was very successful (not as much as Black Panther, of course) and that didn't seem to bring in many more viewers.

Get Out only brought in about $255 million so that won't move the needle. Black Panther definitely would though, not only for the huge success but for that it's become such a cultural symbol in the US. That it looks to have a far higher domestic percentage of the BO than normal of course makes it even bigger there.

I'd expect it to have to rely on the 6-10 slot nonsense that the Oscars are doing these days to have a shot though, but who knows, it could be a bad film year as well.

I posted this in the BP forum but I actually think the biggest problem with it get a best picture nod is not whether it’s good enough or the release date, its its own follow up movie in Infinity War.

RDJ deserves an Oscar for his performance in Iron Man 3 imo. Such emotion and effort put into that film. Ashame people trash it.

THere's been MANY great acting jobs done in Sci-fi films over the years, where i felt the lead(s) should have been at least NOMINATED for a best acting/supporting acting award, but never even got the nod, let alone a win.

IMO that's the public's backlash against the Oscars for getting so A-political these days.

Why was Batman so confident that with Harvey's example the public would do the right thing, let alone long term-especially given that the Joker had gotten the public to turn against him? Let alone confident enough that it was worthwhile to totally darken his own image and example? What if Batman was again needed to save people or the city from the Joker or another supervillain and his heroic actions got media coverage, then the people of the city would feel mixed feelings about him, his actions and value and what they should do.

I mean, in terms of comic book logic, yes there could always be another super villain or one could escape (which is much less likely in real life). And this is a heightened comic book world, so sure enough there was another super villain. It is even implied that Batman's presence caused Gotham criminals to have a "theme" or motif (which goes back to Frank Miller's run). Selina Kyle is dressed somewhat like a cat in Rises, and is clearly a closet Batman fangirl, so you can do the math.

And all of that is well and good, but in real life change only can happen through the system... well at least the kind of change someone like Batman (a literal defender and purifier of the system) would support. People like Harvey Dent and Jim Gordon can inspire a lot more folks than someone like Batman. So it was the right choice for Gotham, but the wrong choice for him.

But you're right, eventually he was needed again, and that's why we have the next movie.
