"Dexter" on Showtime

Actually right now there are two books in the series. Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter. A third one is coming out in August 2007, Dexter in the Dark. Sounds like the TV series' first season has been based around Darkly Dreaming. I would guess the second season would be based around the second book and so on so forth. Not sure how good they are though, never read them. But I will.

Damn so fracking close to discovering homeboys Identity:woot:

If they do decide to go with the book angle that the Ice Truck killer is Dexter's brother, then Deb technically is screwing her step brother.

Man, looks like Dexter's mom was chainsawed in front of him.

Great Episode, man I love this show

Hey Jerry got a question. I haven't read the book.

Who killed his Mom in the book? Was it his Dad? If so, how was he free?

I could wait for the last two episodes to find out, but patience is not my strong suit.

Thanks

Michael C. Hall would make an excellent Bruce Wayne/Batman.

And yes Im totally digging this show!

Actually I don't know yet. I just got both books a few days ago and I started on the first one and right now I am about at the part where they find the victim in the hockey goalie net. The book so far is even a little better than the show. It goes into a little more about I guess what is telling Dexter to do these things, his inner voice. I don't think it has been mentioned in the show yet or at all, but in the book he calls it The Dark Passenger and/or the Need and goes more in depth in his thought processes. But it seems like they really nailed the characters in the show from the book. All of them are pretty much right on. Also minor spolier

Masuoka may be more than he seems. In the book, Dexter sees him like himself, faking emotions, pretending for everyone else.

Book is awesome so far. Do what I did, they have a deal if you buy both from Amazon, its like $25 (plus shipping) all together for both the first book and the hardcover edition of the second one. As far as finding out who kills his mom, I'm not sure if they will reveal that in the last two episodes. That seems like something that can be a long term story, where it covers like the whole next season or part of it or something, not being the primary story in all, but always in there somewhere. I think they will finalize the Ice Truck Killer story with the last two episodes, with Dexter finding out who he is. Or I could be completely wrong like I have before with this show. But if they do in fact reveal it in the book who killed Dexter's mom, I'll let you know.

Well, Deb don't know any better! And Rudy, if he is being Dexter's brother, like in the book, doesn't acknowledge her as Dexter's family, anyway. The rift they experienced in this episode fits with Rudy as Dexter's brother, trying to connect with him, and forgetting that he's somewhat fallen for Deb. I doubt he had any real intention of getting so close to her.

Also, having read the first book, I don't recall the killer of Dexter's mother ever being revealed.

Thanks for the reply.

As for Masuoka, I figured something was up with him after the previews for next week.

Can't wait to see how this plays out.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to really go into the direction of what happened to Dexter's real family in the first book. Right now I am about 2/3 of the way through. Its pretty much entirely different from the TV series at this point, it has Dexter, or what looks to be Dexter being videotaped at the scene of one of the murders before it happened and Deborah is going to turn him in if he doesn't find evidence for her that it wasn't him and thats when the Ice Truck Killer kidnaps Deb. It focuses a lot more on the assumption or possibility that Dexter may actually be doing all the murders himself. In looks like in the next episode Deb will be kidnapped by Rudy or something.

I didn't get to see the previews. The episode was pretty good. So in the book, were Rudy and Dexter really brothers? I was thinking that. And I hope Dexter finds the man who killed his mom. I wonder why Harry hid Dex from knowing about his real dad. Seemed like the dad loved him as well. I thought it was domestic abuse to the extreme that traumatized Dexter. I wonder if the head female cop will get fired or not. The show has also been ordered for a second season, starting enxt summer. I wish that HBO, Showtime and what not shows would be longer than 12 episode per season. Dead like me made 18 episodes in one season.

Rudy wouldn't be a stepbrother to Rudy. Rudy was not adopted by Harry.

I know its a little early but does anyone know when the dvd release is gonna be?

My guess is next summer considering there are 2 episodes left this season I believe. I hate having to pay 40+ bucks for 12 episodes, I think they should have it where they are only 30, becuase its ten episodes less than a regular series.

Thats not hapening because shows like battlestar galactica which are 20+ episodes split up the dvd seasons realeasing eps 1-10 for 39 -49 dollars and then later on doing the same fot 11-20.

the only difference is that Battlestar galactica and dexter are worth every penny not shows like lost or anything else on the market

I've only seen Sex and the City split up, I doubt Dexter would for 12 episodes. I mean, buy two sets of six episodes?

In the book they are brothers but his name isn't Rudy, its Brian, and in the book he also isn't going out with Deb. In fact he is only revealed at the very end of the book, leading up to that point Dexter had thought it was actually his subconcious or other personality (aka Dark Passenger) that was committing the murders.

His subconscious. In the TV series, it doesn't really go into it all that much, but in the books he explains how he has a sort of inner voice, the one that urges him to kill. As the book goes on and as the murders continue, Dexter finds himself connected to each one, and almost knows where and why the murders continue. As this happens he has nightmares, which he never does before this, and the evidence starts to build that he is the only person who seems to have a hunch on where to look for the bodies, something he shouldn't know unless he had been doing it himself, but he can't remember if he had or not. He suspects that he really is losing his mind and that his inner voice, the Dark Passenger he calls it, has taken him over at times and committed these murders. I could go farther but it would completely ruin the book for you. The first book is called Darkly Dreaming Dexter, the second one is called Dearly Devoted Dexter, and there is a third one coming later next year. There is a link at the top of this page to amazon for them.

My wife and I really enjoy this series. Between this and "Weeds", Showtime has had some really great programming on this year.

The show got me by surprise. I thought it was a boring CSI type thing at first (because I saw the Epidsode in which Dexter uses the strings of yarn to trace blood casting), then Dexter killed someone and it got interesting for me.

I've read the first book, and I actually like the series a little more.

There are only two more episodes left. I can't wait to see how it plays out.
