"Dexter" on Showtime

Either Doakes or LaGuerta has to die. In the first book, it's LaGuerta, and Doakes is apparently keeping a closer eye on Dexter in the second book. With LaGuerta being demoted, I'm wondering if they're setting her up to get whacked, like in the first book.

I've read the first book. I think the setting up of LaGuerta is just a little more dramatic for TV.

I think it works in the series for him to show concern. The series has already had a few episodes where it appeared Dexter was beginning to open up emotionally. Especially making love to Rita. I think the nature of novels lends itself to presenting a character like Dexter the way the first book did. The series does need to have him grow somewhat.

They also make love in the book. But probably the best part of last night's episode, for me, was when he mentioned his Dark Passanger.

:wow: Oh boy I started to panic because Battlestar Galactica is moving to Sundays at 10pm after the winter break. But dexter will be over by then whew :woot:

Yeah that was the best part for me too. I was like "FINALLY!!" They really need to go into that whole transformation and realtionship a bit more, having Dexter talk like in the book "We have you now" things like that when he is stalking and captures his target. I can understand that its important that Dexter shows concern, but even in the second book with Doakes constantly shadowing him he basically pretends to be a coach potatoe and he hates it. He thinks of Rita as somewhat of an idiot in the book. He only really uses her for a disguise, to keep himself more low profile. Like I said before, both versions I like, its just the book version seems to be a little more darker.

Oh and I think someone mentioned that they were thinking that like in Season 3 he wouldn't want to kill anymore, well the third book coming out later next year deals with pretty much that exactly. The Dark Passenger leaves Dexter.

And in the second book Doakes pretty much obesses over Dexter, following him everywhere. The TV series should take a lot of what Dexter is thinking with Doakes in that second book, especially near the end.

I was the one who mentioned that in S3 he tries to stop. I had no idea what the third one was about, so who knows. I figured that S2 would be to osoon, maybe like he starts at the end of S2, and it continues to S3, or in the middle of S3 he begins to not want to do this anymore. I want this show to last 6 seasons, but who knows. Does it ever mention in any of the books how many slides Dexter has, aka how many people he killed.

In the second book I remember he specifically says 40 slides. In the show, I would guess around the same, looks like around the same anyway. He may have mentioned it, but I'm not sure.

I wonder, does he know what every victim looks like when he pulls out a slide? It doesn't look like he labels them.

He says that each one of them brings back the memory of that kill. Don't know if he labels them.

Yeah, there's one episode where he goes through some of his slides and he gets all wet about it, and has some flash backs.

Which episode was it? For some reason, I can't seem to be able to find the 10the and 11th episodes on Showtime on demand.

I think thats the 6th episode, where he throws his tools and such into the ocean. I don't get how the bodies don't float up or whatever after he disposes them. Boats, jetskis etc would move the water pretty fast, you'd think they would float up eventually. Unless in one of the books that actually happens.

Hasn't happened in the books. He weighs them down with anchors. Plus its not the whole body in one bag, remember he cuts all the limbs off and everything. Season finale on tonight.

Season finale ended. I thought it was pretty good. It ended pretty significantly different from the first book, though the one thing that remained the same was Doakes beginning to follow Dexter around everywhere. I kinda liked how it was handled in the book though, with La Guerta becoming very suspicious of Dexter. Interesting both ways. One other way it was different was that Deb knew the truth at the end of the first book after Dexter saved her and was able to accept Dexter as who he really was.

Then floating limbs would pop up, or the bags that contain them. Watching the re-run in a little more than half an hour. I wonder if the second season will be like the second book, though I haven't read that. I just started the first one.

Even if they did float up towards the surface, they wouldn't last long with all the sharks and fish eating it. Hardly anything would be found, if anything at all.

Maybe it'll happen in the third book, around the end, leaving it open for the 4th if there is one. Did Jeff Lindsay say how mnay he was going to write? Couldn't Dex just tell other cops that Doakes is following him and what not, I mean, Doakes is the only one that thinks hes weird and what not, although LaGuerta is a little suspicious.

damn Good show, still trying to convince others to watch it.

No, not sure how many books there will be after the third one. Dexter could tell other cops that Doakes is following him, but it wouldn't really accomplish anything and would, if anything, threaten to expose him more. Doakes is a seargent, well respected, Dexter, apart from his sister and fellow lab partners, has no real support from any other cops. Like you said, La Guerta is probably at least a little curious about him now so she wouldn't just shrug it off. Dexter can't really do anything, only if perhaps something happened to Doakes....

Wow...great episode!

I love how he couldn't explain why he killed he real brother and not his adopted sister...I'd love for him (much later on) to realize that it was a bit of humanity that made him do it...that unexplainable quality that makes us decent people.

I don't think he'll do anything to Doakes...that OR (and this is off the wall) maybe Doakes finds out but supports it (because he's the type that is a bit unorthodox himself and seems like he wants the scum off the street regardless of the method (and it'd make a Hell of a twist).

And I don't think LaGuerta is as suspicious as people think she is.

As for Paul and Rita...well you could pull my "find out, but is cool with it" theory with her too, but who knows. Likely she'll just think Dex was acting to protect her and the family and love him more for it.

Like I said...just outthere theories...Damn I can't wait for next season!!

What a fantastic season closer. I'm sad to see this show end it's season, myself. I'm wishing it would just go on and on without end. Heh! Truly can't stand to have to wait for next season. A part of me wishes they'd left Dexter's brother on the loose and played with his presence and it's effects on Dexter more next season, even though that's pretty far from the books from what I understand. At any rate, what a smartly written and produced show. One of the very few my wife and I have watched religiously.

I'm glad 2 see Dex had some compassion for his brother, asking him 4 more tranquilizer, telling him he doesn't want 2 have to do this. If only Brian hadn't stabbed the bed, and wanted to be better, but that wouldn't be a good show, it would mean that Dex isn't alone. I don't see why we have to wait until next summer. I was hoping for April or May. Also wishing for a longer season, Dead like me had 18 episodes in one season, so why not? Glad 2 see Dex can actually hold his own when he fought Doakes.

WOW, Now that was a season ender!!!!

Can't wait till next season.
