Diamond List for June 25th, 2008

Yeah, I'm willing to try out anything from Vertigo that deals with the imprint's old, familiar stomping grounds of mysticism and the supernatural. Plus, all the previews I've seen of Amy Reeder Hadley's art look amazing.

Yeah, it's mangaish, but in a good way. It's very detailed and the coloring is very subtle. I hope she can continue to produce art with that level of quality on a monthly basis.

I wasn't familiar with House of Mystery at all, but a few minutes on Wikipedia caught me up before I read the issues. And to be honest, I probably wouldn't have even needed to do that. The main focus of HoM is a completely new character (as far as I'm aware). I just hope that Madame Xanadu doesn't require any previous knowledge of the character, as I've never even heard of her before this book.

Looks more European than manga-ish to me. And I think the series is essentially a reintroduction of the character. She seems considerably younger in the previews than every earlier appearance I've seen of her, and Vertigo properties always try to distance themselves from the main DC universe, so I'm sure the series was probably written with new readers in mind.

Two SI tie-in's featuring revelations about Hank Pym. One will have continuity ties. One will depict Pym as a wife-beating *****e and twist him to the story's whims. Anyone want to guess which? The hint; the writer's last name rhymes with "Rendis".

Only 3 more issues of MCP, thank god. And a "6 month story" in RUNAWAYS ends after over a year. And thus my commitment to the franchise, save the YA team up mini later.

But, overall, looks like a great week.

Fantastic Four 558 $2.99
Captain America 39 $2.99
Thor Ages of Thunder: Reign of Blood $3.99

It's a shame Romita, Jr. couldn't have drawn the A:TI one. Although, in Bendis' defense, the preview does show Jan as at least as much of an a**hole as Hank.

Yeah, really. I'm wondering what Bendis meant exactly when he labeled Jan as "the greatest Avenger."

That makes her the greatest Avenger? Those are some low standards.

Well, Bendis didn't seem to take too well to the Avengers in the first place, hence his total reconstruction of everything about them.

Yes, and when he built them back up to be as similar to the old Avengers as is possible for Bendis, Jan suddenly became the greatest Avenger.

What, Mighty Avengers? That's not like the old Avengers at all, as far as I'm concerned. The old Avengers would never have been Tony or SHIELD's goon squad.

As for Jan, I guess it might be because she's had arguably the most personal growth as an Avenger. She went from the ditzy, boy-crazy moron in the first year or two, overcame emotional and physical abuse, and eventually grew into a pretty solid leader.
