Diamond List for May 28th, 2008

I've developed a similar system for lunch, since I read comics while eating lunch so frequently now. I split my table area into quadrants:

- top-left contains my drink, isolated far enough away from the comics that I can move them if I knock it over or something
- bottom-left contains my comics, adjusted occasionally for glare if necessary
- bottom-right contains my food, which may only be accessed using my right hand
- top-right contains a generous supply of napkins.

I sat down in a Starbucks and read comics while drinking coffee. It felt really weird to me.

That's because it was Starbucks. you need to find an independent coffee shop. One of the ones where they require of their employees piercings and clothing that looks like it came from Goodwill. Try your local college, I'm sure they have a few dozen...

I never even drink anything near my comics.

People at my college seem to love Starbucks, actually. Mother****ers built one into our main library, in fact.

There are two independent coffee shops that I know make good coffee, though. I still wouldn't really feel right reading comics at either of those, though. Maude's is downtown and tends to draw all the trendy hipsters--the kind of people who'd laugh at me for having a 70/30 ratio of superhero to indie comics--and the other tends to have students studying all the time, to the point that I feel weird if I'm not there with a laptop and a giant textbook. Meh, I think I'm just too picky to read comics anywhere except at home and at work.

You're not alone. Colleges will ****e themselves out to any ******* with two dimes to rub together.

On the plus side, our local public library (which I must say, kicks 10 kinds of ass) gave the contract for a coffee shop to a local shop.

Nice. My local public library is pretty good, but they don't have a coffee shop. They seem to cater more to kids than the coffee-drinking demographic; but that's also kind of cool because I guess they consider graphic novels and comics "kids' stuff," so every branch has a whole section in or near the kids' section devoted to them. I've checked out a bunch of TPBs from them. :)

I didn't know people still bought Wizard. Huh.

It doesn't float my boat. It's reading material for when I am taking a poop

Comics are reading material for when I poop. They're quick enough reads that I can read a whole one and feel completely satisfied before my butt gets too numb.

I'm sorry but taking comic books into the bathroom is just wrong!! :cmad:....and anyone who can read a comic in the alloted time it takes to poop, should seriously consider seeing a doctor about the latter :csad:

Thats when I flip thru Wizard. Your butt goes numb, or your feet?? I've never had my butt go numb, but my feet...all the time.

My feet fall asleep, and then I've gotta do the awkward pins-and-needles walk over to the sink to wash my hands. :(
