Diamond List for October 10, 2007

It's already written in blood, dude. You don't have a choice.

Well, okay. I'm not going to buy it, but I will probably flip through it.

For flipping through it? Don't pretend, dude. You're totally flipping through it.

BOOSTER GOLD #3
FNSM OMD #2
GHOST RIDER #16
NEW AVENGERS #35
NEW WARRIORS #5
NOVA #7
PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL #12
RUNAWAYS #28

About an average week in terms of title count. Ironically, the 3rd issue of the Whedon-written RUNAWAYS title ships on the month when, had every issue been on time from his launch, he would have been wrapping up. It also is amazing that the book, despite the fact that it is easily better than Whedon's ASTONISHING, has gone from my #1 Marvel book to one of those rare, "oh, so you're here" sort of titles. I'll finish his limp-dick run and then when the Terry Moore/Ramos run is about to start, flip a coin on it.

New Avengers #35 is the cover that has Wolverine gaining a Vemom symbiote, which is literally an idea I once had as a kid in 7th grade and later considered to be pretty stupid later on. Considering that Venom and Wolverine were huge around that peroid in the 90's I am surprised that move wasn't done then, during PLANET OF THE SYMBIOTES or something. Instead it is more of Bendis using crap from the 90's like the Clone Saga and believing in his infinite wisdom that it will be gold, and it won't. The only thing I am looking forward to in NA is what he does with Hood and the other villains, not more symbiote ****. People bash GHOST RIDER sometimes but that book I don't hate every month. NEW AVENGERS I hate every month. My life would be instantly happier if I never read it again. But I always find myself plunking down the $3 for it just so I can comment on it, or have a warning about Marvel's next editorial move (as Bendis is the Rasputin to Joe Q's czar). Maybe that makes me a hypocrite when I bemoan the death of great books like ANT-MAN because this trash gets over 100k a month and I help it to, but there it is. Every time I see it on the Diamond list my stomach twitches in anticipation, I swear. Even Mighty Avengers with all it's flaws doesn't do that, yet.

Still, any week with NW and NOVA is a good one. Booster Gold and P:WJ could also be enjoyable reads. GR varies. RUNAWAYS is a shell of itself but it isn't nearly as offensive to me.

Am not. I know that all that lies within those covers is heartache and ****ty Joe Q art. Why would I want to inflict either on myself?

Because you need the rumors to be proven false so that you can enjoy Slott's Spider-Man.

I'll leave you, the others who read it in their shops and bound home to ***** about it on here, and those even more unfortunate saps who not only pay, but pay $1 more than a typical comic, to tell me if that happens. Then I can pick it up starting with Brand New Day and still save some money and skip Joe Q's crappy art.

God knows you're lying about not flipping through it, Corp. God knows.

Y'know, even with the rumor of the Parker marriage dissolving with OMD, I dread NA more, every time.

All OMD can F up is Spider-Man. Spider-Man has been F'd up to me for a decade or so. NA always has the potential to F up THE ENTIRE MARVEL UNIVERSE.

True. But, I'd rather read a good Slott/McNiven/Bachalo/JRJR Spider-Man book then a good Bendis/Yu Avengers book, though.

Bendis will never write a truly good Avengers book. He has no faith in the superhero genre and feels it consistantly needs his precious "ideas" to save it from utter collapse. And he is one of those writers who would prefer to cement his name in infamy or throw his audience's expectations than provide a solid, enjoyable story. His niche is urban crime noir and DD/ALIAS catered to that. He was solid on USM for a while but clearly has been there too long and it sank into irrational repetition and fan-fiction.

MA is his best in a while and that is merely because sometimes it rises above mediocrity. But it also is paced slow and the schedule doesn't help that. But, really, we had nekkid Wasp Ultron telling humanity he/she LOVES THEM. He made Ultron, one of the baddest ass Avenger enemies ever, into a whiney Joy Luck Club reject just to get Cho some more breasts to draw. I'd like Bendis better if he bent over that far to actually PLEASE his audience and not to feel their expectations are shallow and beneathe his artiste urges.

As a completist, I completely understand your gnawing need to get the next issue even though it doesn't satisfy you...

However, after buying titles I deplored during the 90's for 2 to 3 straight years, it really feels good to finally "delete" it from your pull list.

You'll feel better.... we'll lose interesting Bendis bashing, but you'll feel better.

:yay:

I thought that was a great bit; she loves them, but is going to massacre them all because they're still beneath her. Certainly not whiney.
