Dick Grayson Casting Thread

I don't necessarily want Dick to be hardened, as much as experienced after years of nightly activities in the city's slums. I'd say that choice above is lacking this, and appears too feeble and unimposing to be hanging in Gotham.

Have you seen Efron lately? The dude is HUGE. There's nothing feeble about him.

No kidding:

Actually, I was trying to make innuendos as well as particular point. I didn't mean it quite literally, it's just that he lacks gravitas and presence for the role to me, there's too much of that boy band vibe to him. Also, how good of an actor is he? I don't think I ever saw any of his films.

If Affleck wants to add some credibility to this thing, he should try to steal Alden Ehrenreich for this role, from Disney's clutches.

That actor is about to make it big.

Too late. His soul belongs to Disney already.

"Hey, Alden... fancy stepping away from the critically and financially successful Star Wars world for the critically mediocre and financially underwhelming world of DC movies?"

Natural response:

"Hey what do you say you give up a leading role in the Star Wars franchise and come play second fiddle in a comic book movie?"

Efron has legitimized himself in my eyes. He used to just be the High achool Musical guy but he's not a bad actor. Id be happy with him as Dick. i think it's important to cast an upbeat guy with lots of charisma as Dick. That's always been a key difference between Bruce and Dick. Dick isn't just a mini Bruce, he's a source of light in Bruce's life.

Dick Grayson in BTAS is the absolute gold standard. They nailed everything about the character.

BTAS is basically the gold standard for everything. Wish they would draw more from that show..

Effron is cool and all, but I think the point some posters are making, is that whomever ends up playing Dick has to be able to sell the "tough" part of it. Grayson might be upbeat and charismatic and all of that (and he is), but he's a tough guy; you don't get to deal (and succeed) with Gotham's criminals on a daily basis if you're not the toughest guy around, and being ripped and muscular doesn't (necessarily) make you tough, it makes you fit. An underwear model does not a fighter make.

This isn't a jab at Effron, Dick Grayson is one of my favorite characters and this is the same reason why I wouldn't want Armie Hammer as Grayson, he doesn't have that "tough" look; let me use another example: Tom Hardy, objectively speaking, if you just look at a picture of him and know nothing about, specially when he was younger, he has very soft features, he'd be even considered a "pretty guy", but there's no denying that he has that tough look about him, like he'd get in a street fight and come out on top; not saying I want Hardy as Grayson, that's just how I personally envision Dick Grayson.

Just my humble opinion, of course. :yay:

I'm telling ya, Armie Hammer will be the name in the official press release once everything is a lock. Deathstroke is probably just the hired muscle in this film and will be the primary baddie in the Nightwing solo.

I’m still not convinced Armie’s playing Grayson. He’s even bigger than Ben, I’ve just never imagined Dick to be so imposing.

I suppose I wouldn’t mind him. He’s the right age, and if they ever do DickBats he’s in prime shape and condition to pull it off.

We’ll see.

Yup.

Like I said before, I now expect a cameo or a name drop in JL. HE could actually first appear on the HQ spinoff. I also want Batgirl.

Hammer could be Nightwing. I'd rather see that instead of him as younger Bruce Wayne. And I'd rather see Deathstroke as the main villain in Nightwing and just have a few scenes in The Batman.

Welp, just read about THE ACCOUNTANT screenwriter being in charge of sole scripting duties. That does not inspire confidence.

Did you read the script or watch the movie? Because the writer has the least impact on how a movie turns out.

Both the script and direction were lackluster. The silver lining in this is McKay seems like the hands-on type, so maybe it’s enough to offset whatever is lacking on the page. Much like Abrams’ role on STAR TREK ’09.

Still, you can always aspire for better talent. THE ACCOUNTANT didn’t even well critically or financially so not sure why they’re hedging their bets on the guy. But I guess studios really like sticking with family.
