That's one roach squashed...

Weird coincidence, because around the time of the release of the black suit, i was planning to send Marvel some sample pages (I was interested in being a comic artist back then), and I came up with the brainflash of giving Spidey a new costume- a black one with a large white spider- only similar to the Tarantula's and just a costume- no alien life form. So I was pretty stunned to here that they were giving spidey a new suit and was even more shocked to see the cover.

But- about the suit itself. I thought it looked cool, but not revolutionary. And I was happy when the original red & blues returned.

My god... the creation of the HobGoblin, the epic battle between Spidey & the Juggernaut, the kid who collected Spider-Man, the long-awaited return of Mary Jane (she was absent from the book for about 5 years prior to his writing her back in... she took off after Peter proposed to her the first time), some great insights on the origin of the Vulture, a great story involving the original Tarantula, Will'O the Wisp & that evil corporation, Brand, another one with Cobra & Mr.Hyde...

It's all good!

:)

Aloha,
Currently many of the original Hobgoblin and Black Costume stories are up in the library this month.

And yes to answer your question Chris the black costume was sweet, however I prefer the red and blues (Moreso the Reilly tweaked ones)

We're so gonna hijack this into an Army of Darkness thread, aren't we?

Now see, here I'm forced to agree with you. That was some great storytelling, & while there's been good stuff here & there, nothing has been that good in a while.
Who wrote the return of the burglar?
If you're referring to issue #200 then that would be Marv Wolfman.

Actually, even though Marv Wolfman wrote that fantastic story, the first appearance of the Burglar since AF #15 was written by Len Wein in ASM #170.

But his next appearance, ASM #193, was written by Wolfman, who arguably has THE BEST run on Amazing since Stan Lee.

:)

I like the black costume.

I remember the first time I saw Spidey in it. My mom just bought me some Secret Wars action figures, from the 80's, and the black suit Spider-Man was one of them. Being a little kid I always thought for the longest time that they were two different Spider-Men. Heh.

that was the first time i saw the black suit too! i think i still have that figure somewhere, i think the design of the anatomy was possibly the best spider-man figure ever.

Although i'm a sucker for the red & blues, i've always had a place for the black costume. Especially the living one.

I never liked it. It just doesnt work on spidey. Hell, I'd argue the Iron Spider look is a better fit.

I was talking about the one where he died; I didn't know he showed up in-between.:spidey:

it was simplicity and that's why it was a cool change for a while.

Like the Black suit a bit less than the red and blues(Black) but I still like it... Scarlet BlingSpidey(a.k.a. the robin suit)... not at all...

I could definitely see someone saying the black suit doesn't fit with Spider-Man, but still, it's an awesome design.
That's pretty much how I feel. I liked it for the time; it was well-designed, but I was glad to see him back in the classic threads, as I will be once Civil War is over..:spidey:

Why not? Mara Jane & Themanofbat almost jacked this into a writing thread.

TMOB, Wolfman or Stern for best run since Stan Lee (currently I have them tied, it usually goes back and forth)

The Black Spidey costume = The best alternative costume for a superhero. Ever. (imo, of course)

Who designed it?
