Superman Returns did superman seem messiah like ?

that's what I said, he's more like a greek god than like christ really. Near perfect, with some flaws, and has abilities unlike anything else on earth.
Well then I agree with you. They even had an Atlas scene during the movie when he is holding the Bugle globe.

I wouldn't give a s*** because it is a movie. I am a devout Christian and loved the Da Vinci Code even though, being fiction, tries to cast doubt about your beliefs. Superman is not Messiah like, he is god like. Jesus was a man, Superman is a god.

And how do you define "devout" with a potty mouth like that?? And Jesus is God the Son.

DOH!
It's planet, but i know what you meant.
And yeah, he has to keep the world from toppling over.

I think he means greek god, not God.
a greek, aztec, or any other cult religion's god has a lower case, The Christian god has a capital because that's his name, God.
or if your Jewish, Yahweh, or if your Muslim, Allah.

You have no right to judge me and how do you know I didn't type song, smog, snot, etc...??? Jesus is God the Son but in the form of a man. That is part of the Holy Trinity...Son, Father, Spirit. Father is in Heaven, Son walked the Earth, and Spirit lasts forever. Do not lecture me on religion. What makes you think comparing Superman to the Son of God is justworthy???

I do mean god. God is one person and that is his name...god is a deity that exists in mythology and many religions. Some people in here are just assanine beyond belief...I have one sane person backing me though...

I can judge what you say. I can't judge "why" you said it. All I know is that the bible is clear that Christians shouldn't be cussin'. So as a fellow believer, it's my duty to check you on it (Matthew 18:15). Read Ephesians 5:4 sometime, bro....

Movies pull from the Bible. How many movies have you seen where a son leaves his home, gets into trouble and then comes back after learning some hard lessons?? Heard that some where before?? So sure...we can see similarities in superman. Similar does not mean the same.

WRONG! :P

He's a being! :D

I don't know why I am posting in this because it is completely ridiculous, but I must voice my opinion. I think some of you are taking things way out of proportion. The Superman mythology has always been the same, in that a God like man sent his only son to earth to help save the human race. I don't know why people are just now freaking out over it. And taking every little detail of the movie as a sign that they are trying to portray Superman as Jesus is stupid. I mean falling from the sky with his arms out, how would one like him to fall, hands to the side with no movement. Seriously, people need not examine every little detail trying to finds something to ***** about.

Superman is a god amongst men, just as so many other superheroes. Who knows, maybe Jesus was a Kryptonian.

I never said that biblical allusions CAN'T be made. I welcome them! However...it's another thing when you depict Superman assuming the crucifixion pose, getting the **** beat out of him shortly before stabbing him in the abdomen, "sacrificing" himself for mankind, the surprise of the nurses that his body has vanished, the speech he says to his son at the end of the movie, and even the entire crux of the story being about what happens when "messiahs return." Are you really going to tell me that is wasn't laid on just a tad thick?

I agree that it is a strong coincidence, but it wasn't intended that way. Bryan Singer had the story in mind, but he then realized that his plot of Superman returning is very similar to these different biblical allusions. And in no way is the movie trying to spread Christianity. If anything its just trying to be a good movie. It just so happens that there's a big reference to the messiah that people who analyze the film (like us) recognize. The average audience just thinks "Hey, I'm watching Superman!"

So every movie that doesn't have some kind of Christ allegory is disrespecting Christianity? I'm not following that argument. It is possible to have a Superman movie NOT have religious imagery. There is simply no need for it. Superman is a superhero and whatever religious parralels one could deduce are there by default. No need to spin it one way or the other and give it a bias. Doing so flys in the face of what Superman is supposed to stand for. To be honest, it was reeeeaaaallly hard for me to associate Superman with Moses in this movie.

I never said that. I was stating how unfair it is for christ allegories to be frowned upon. I agree, its not needed. But I don't see how it hurts the integrity of a film if it makes the story that much more powerful.

I know, and its a damn shame how humanity has perverted his message and slaughtered millions in his name.

The reason I stated that Jesus teaches about love is to show you that even if Superman Returns tilted towards Christianity, it doesn't mean its a bad thing. If the message is to hold moral values and to do good like Superman, I don't see how it hurts anyone.

Sure, thousands of years ago, Christianity was spread over countries and went against Jesus' teachings, but that doesn't mean the followers of today are still to blame.

Lol, yeah.
He has some similarities with Jesus, but in the end, he is more like a Greek god.
When he fights other Kryptonians, it will most likely end in a standstill, which is what happens when a god fights a god. He even takes a shape on earth so he can walk amongst the normal people. He's also considered the king of the DC pantheon, just like Zeus is considered the king of the Greek pantheon.

By the way if you were gonna spell snot, smog or song you should have. Instead you left people with an s-word that we all know goes into a phrase like the one you used. Just be honest brotha.

Though vulgar, the cuss word that fits into that phrase makes more sense than those other words you just plucked outta the sky, to make your argument. "I don't give a song?" LOL..... dude ....just fess up. :)

You don't know what I said period. I had s * * *. You thought up in your little head what you thought I said. And there have been stories far before Christianity about god like men leaving home and going on a journey. And since you do not know what I said...you cannot judge it. Words and gestures are what we as man make them as see fit as punishable or acceptable.

To me he is a person and not a floating orb of light. I will see his face one day and not a smoke flash.

next were gonna say Superman is like Aslan, and Lois Lane is like little Lucy.
we are getting a little crazy in this thread.

Religious arguements will be the end of the world....
And it was the start of it. But nearly all religions see fit to force beliefs on others...which causes fights and wars.

Then you left a false and misleading impression out there and that's a fib. I can judge that.

I just don't think you're being honest here. But okay........I'm going to bed. Good night.

It is your opinion...sorry to fight with you but you came across as a fanatical maniac that goes around and throws Bibles at your neighbors.

LOL, just imagine him insulting Superman in it, then Superman burst out in a fit of laughter.
He feels his head, and feels the wig, he didn't realize he put it on. Then he burst out laughing, and the henchmen follow.
