I'm trying to design a new suit for Superman as part of my own Superman franchise along with writing some screenplays.

So what I'm wondering is, what would you suggest for a Superman suit that differs from the one that Henry Cavill wears in MOS?

Any suggestions are welcomed and I'd also love it if you guys could post some artwork and comic art for inspiration.

My only suggestion would be to look outside of superhero costumes for inspiration. Look at different armor and formal designs from as many cultures as possible. And give a back story, it sounds silly but giving a back story to your version of Superman and Krypton will go along way to getting a design on paper. How does your Superman differ from the MoS or any other Superman? What does your Krypton look like? How did they dress? Is the costume meant to be everyday Kryptonian dress or some form of ceremonial outfit? And don't just go with the first thing that comes to mind, do a couple of different concept sketches, see what works and what doesn't, combined bits and pieces together, see how far you can push it whilst retaining the core Superman costume elements. Hope that helps.

My POV has always been to make a Superman suit that looks alien. That's for me the base of it. Alien-looking suit.

I think he should have a red belt instead of just a yellow buckle or a red belt trimmed in yellow with a yellow buckle. The suit needs more yellow

check out some of those classic alien invasion movies from the 40's and think what would look "alien" in that time period if you're going for alien. but if you want a ma kent kind of suit, just stick with the traditional. maybe replace the briefs with a red and gold belt for a more modern audience

I think there are two basic premises for Superman's costume. Either it should be Kryptonian in origin, for example, some kind of alien military uniform or a ceremonial costume.

Or it should be based on "superheroes" that previously existing within the DC Universe prior to Clark Kent deciding to adopt the Superman persona for his heroics.

Whichever premise is chosen, then it should be followed through. If Superman's suit is Kryptonian, then it should look distinctly alien and there should be a somewhat reasonable explanation for why it was included in the shuttle that brought Kal-El to Earth or why Superman had it "manufactured" in the Fortress of Solitude.

If Superman's suit is based on earlier superheroes, then it should similarly feature bright, bold colours and a design that is obviously based on such superheroes. The "S" can still be explained as his Kryptonian family crest or coat of arms.

A little off-topic but I wonder how the suit will look if red and blue switch places. I've never seen it, even tried to search for it. But google didn't help me.

It actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.

I want Superman to have a less alien suit. I always liked the explanation that his mom made it for him.

Definitely stay away from the yellow-strong ones. Those look terrible.

Black suit, gold & silver S Shield, gold or silver shorts with gold or silver belt depending on what color you went with for the shorts, gold & silver boots with gold cape & silver S shield.

I call it Superman mood suit, similar to the Man Of Steel movie suit but this suit would be more of a bio-mechanical alien suit & change from dark to light colors based on the weather conditions Superman is flying in, the temperature outside & show how Superman's body deals with hot & cold weather, & aide him in absorbing more of the suns radiation. maybe throw in an S Shield plasma ray or cellophane S shield generator to throw at bad guys.:hehe:

Maybe he can wear the cape in front, chaps a pinwheel hat and spinning rims..
Or you know instead of cosmetically reinventing the wheel, actually come up with something new.

White shirt with a S shield drawn with pizza sauce, red checkered table cloth for a cape, Transformers boxer shorts & Barney house shoes.
