Why does my digital camera register new fresh batteries (out of the pack no less) as only having one bar of life left?

Cameras with LCD screens chew through batteries like a fat guy at thanksgiving.Invest in some rechargeable batteries or a charging station for your camera model.

Rechargeable batteries do the same thing. It's something wrong within the camera.

Are you sure the batteries are actually low or is there just something wrong with the camera that makes it think your batteries are low when they're really not?

Also, one good way to prolong battery life in a digital camera or any electronic device with an LCD screen is to check the settings and see if there's a way to dim the LCD display. This will help reduce the amount of battery life your camera uses, and you probably won't notice the difference in brightness unless you're outside on a bright day with the sun directly over-head (which is not really an ideal condition for picture-taking anyways), and in that case you can just increase the brightness temporarily.

If you're camera is draining the batteries instantly though then you should probably take it back, and stop putting new batteries in it of course. Is it a brand-new camera or have you had it for a while and it just started doing this?

Well if you've had it for a while and it just started doing this then it's probably something inside the camera that failed. I don't know that much about the inner-workings of digital cameras but maybe there's something that regulates the amount of battery power your camera that has quit working. If your camera gets hot after being on for an extended period of time then something like that is probably happening. Again, I don't know too much about it so I'm just kind of guessing here. Anyone who actually knows what they're talking about, feel free to correct me.

Anyways you're best bet would be to return the camera. If you got it at a retail store and it's still under warranty they'll probably just want to give you a replacement as opposed to refunding your cash.
