Do you count Direct-to-DVD sequels as being official sequels to a movie?

I rarely care, 'cause most D-T-DVD movies have totally different characters with zero connection to those of the first film anyway. Unless the sequels to movies like Bring it On and the Butterfly Effect reference the characters and situations of the original.

Then you have a case like Universal Soldier, that actually has two DTV sequels that were made before with Van Damme's character, played by a different actor, then Van Damme returned for a theatrically released sequel.

Nope. Maybe if it's a good one with some connection to the first.

I like the direct-to-video sequels of Aladdin :o

I also own the DTV Aladdin sequels so don't feel bad. I thought Return of Jafar was good. :O

Same here! And, I also liked King of Thieves!

Aladdin is the only time a DTV sequel was good. Other than that, they pretty much all suck.
One exception is Advent Children.

Yep, I also have the Aladdin DTV sequel Return of Jafar... and I like it!

What's it matter. They are almost always universally bad pretty much no one sees them and those who do, fail to remember them. They don't matter and don't count because no one really cares though.

Return of Jafar was good because it set-up the TV show, which was also pretty good.

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker....was cool.

But, that wasn't really a sequel. Or was it

I tend to stay away from anything direct to DVD Batman TAS adventures aside.

If you are inquiring as to the status of American Pie franchise, I think the answer is they are trying to be the next National Lampoons, and so far it has worked

If you aren't asking about that, then if the characters are the same, I say it is a sequel, if they aren't the same I think it is a spin off

Some movies I consider sequels, but others, like the 8MM DTV sequel, I consider to be the bastard child the movie had out of wedlock.

^ not really. The guy from The Mummy was a bad Darkman. Liam Neeson was awesome in the role.

i don't know why they didn't just get bruce campbell to play him.

If a tree falls in the forest......

Really, I figure if it doesn't get enough attention....it might as well not count. A film that goes beneath the radar completely.....something like Behind Enemy Lines 2, perhaps, probably doesn't count b/c most people don't even know it exists. Or forget it exists.

It's a way to grab hold of a fading franchise for sure.

This may be evil.. But i enjoyed Tremors 2: After Shocks. The third i never saw.
