Director's Cut in theaters for July

He strikes the cop's windpipe to incapacitate him. I suppose it could concievably kill you...but it's unlikely.

Is the DC really only 3hrs and 10 mins? As that isnt that much longer than the theatrical cut, still cant wait to see it, but expected it to be longer than that.

The theatrical cut was 2:36, wasn't it? I'd say an extra 34 minutes is a pretty big deal. And dont forget, that doesn't include the Bernie stuff or the Black freighter, which could be another half hour on top of that.

lets hope in that 23 min they add and explain comedian crying to Moloch. and what list? "oh, your names on the list". (speaking as a film-viewer only)

Janey Slater mentioned in the bar. Yet Rory and Nite Owl never go talk to her??

nope it was 2:36 dont look at imdb for resources plz

silverglad it was made crystal clear on comedian scene in the movie

The Comedian crying was explained without that extra 23 minutes.

exactly he was crying because he was cracking under the pressure of what he knew Adrian was gonna do.The list is explained aswell it is the list of people under Pyramid Transnational.

That's still kinda irks me a lil bit,

AS a normal viewer who did not read the book,

How can SOMEBODY LIKE The Comedian, gets upset as something like that, surely with his Nihilistic nature and experience as a sociapath, why would Ozy's actions disturbed someone like The Comedian to even make him cry???

1) Rorschach asks "The Comedian? Crying?"

2) The Comedians says, "I've done some bad things, but THIS..."

Connect the dots. If someone as disturbed as Blake gets phased by whatever he's discovered, then it's gotta be horrendous and terrible. It's something you have to take seriously, if it breaks someone so morally despicable.

I know he discovered that Veidt has been planning to murder millions of people framing Dr. M and also to give people cancer just to frame John.

But like I said those things can make someone like Nite Owl and Silk Spectre to break down but FOR THE COMEDIAN????

With all the dark stuff he experienced in 60 years of his dark life surely that would not bother a person like him.

As Dr. Manhattan puts it in Chapter 4, "Blake's different. He understands perfectly... and he doesn't care." Rorschach states he admires Comedian for his worldview; his forceful, uncompromising personality, and the fact he did not care if people liked him or not. Rorschach also commented that the Comedian was the one who understood where the world was going and what was happening to society.
Quote: "Once you figure out what a joke everything is, being the Comedian's the only thing that makes sense."

Does that sound like a man who would break down even on Ozy's heinous actions???

EDIT:

Disregard my previous post because...

Nevermind I got it!! I got what Moore was trying to say.

Movie disappointing. Never compromise.

If it didn't compromise, it'd be out in the theatre for a week, they would actually lose money, and we would never even see a film attempt to get close to what snyder at least tried to pull off. so would it be worth it? because the hundreds of people that worked on the film should have made it just for you and us fans? it's a bit of an ethical quagmire, but so is the end of the watchmen.

hurm. just watching the movie again last night, attempting to divorce as much as possible my knowledge of the comic so that I could watch it as just a film, I noticed two things. Veidt isn't noticeably villainous to begin with. To the layman, Veidt probably just blurs into the backdrop. In fact, the scene with the oil and auto-moguls seemed to do a decent job at making him seem like he was one of the sanest of the bunch.

As far as the Comedian goes, I noticed a lot of 'pathos' from the beginning. Almost every scene he's in, it seems like he's trying to hold himself up as the Comedian, as the nihilist/prankster (captain america meets moore's Joker), with a considerable amount of effort. Of course we can see that he derives pleasure from the atrocities he commits, but during a lot of the dialogue, we can see him hesitant, 'bitter' as Dr. Manhattan says, to which he responds, "no, i think it's hilarious." There's a bit of uncertainty there, it seemed a bit forced. And when he screams 'medic!' after shooting the pregnant vietnamese woman, he throws over the table and storms out. That hardly conveyed a sense of detached, nihilistic humor. With these things in mind and to watch for, it makes perfect sense (once again, considering the film alone) that he breaks down in Moloch's.

I like Zack but I can understand why people like chosen1 have beef with him. The first things that come out of his mouth when it comes to the increased length is that it will be "more violent" and "sexier". Why can't he talk about how the story overall can be improved and the dramatic weight increased when certain scenes are added. More violent and sexier. Come on, really?

And the true directorial traits of Snyder sink in. I think the guy makes decent movies, but seriously, sex and blood are his favorite things.

Yeah this is one of the areas where the movie's changed ending weakened it's impact.

In the book Adrian's plan is so much more bizarre, twisted, and unfathomable than a giant explosion.

Blake breaking down based on the original plan's unspeakable gruesomeness was much easier to buy than the movie version.

Maybe. Ozy's scheme in the movie is much bigger than the scheme in the graphic novel (more fatalities), so I think that would get to him.

But I think what was partially eating away at the Comedian was knowing he was in checkmate. He didn't feel right stopping Ozymandias, but in keeping silent about it, he became a conspirator in the scheme.

23 minutes can add A LOT to a film.

That it can, but i was personally hoping a lot more from the book would be added than that.

I have never visited IMDB in my life sunshine, so dont go assuming thats were I got the run-time. I got the run-time from my cinema web-site as well as Empireonline.com.

http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/review.asp?FID=11018 Scroll down and look left for film details.

I think he meant the running time excluding the credits.

I'm pretty sure the movie was only around 2:35, because that's near the limit for IMAX. I think the 2:43 runtime was before they cut Hollis Mason's death.

Nah, the theatrical release of WATCHMEN runs a full 2:43 (163 minutes) in its cinematic length.

Given that the Director's Cut is going to run approx. 190 minutes, that gives up about an extra 25-27 minutes of footage, which is a significant amount.

From the article in the original post:

"Following that, of course, will be the "Watchmen" DVD in the fall — which will include what he dubbed a "Crazy Ultimate Freaky Edition" boasting such time-omitted extras as "Tales of the Black Freighter," Hollis Mason's death, more Manhattan moments on Mars and dialogue-heavy scenes with the newsstand-bonding Bernies."

Autumn release? sweet! :yay:

In the fall? I thought it would be in July?
