Are there directors other than Zack Snyder who regularly release subsequent director's cuts that a lot of their fans say are much better than the theatrical versions?

And, kind of on the other extreme, are there directors other than Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson who do release extended versions but also waffle, who say the extended version is extended, additional but they were also already satisfied with the theatrical version and consider it as much or more their version?

I personally like the Aliens DC vs the Theatrical.

Yeah, James Cameron kind of rides both lines.

With Aliens and The Abyss, his director’s cuts are his preferred versions, but has also released extended cuts for Terminator 2 and Avatar though in those cases he considers the theatrical cuts his preferred versions.

Which is interesting because I think that both director's cuts of T2 and Avatar are improvements over the theatrical versions.
