Plus recycling creates more pollution from recycle trucks. If people just threw everything out, there'd be less air pollution from trucks.

LOL the pollution added by the 4 recycling trucks per city is NOTHING. Not compared to the benefits gained from recycling a truckload of bottles that would take 10,000 years to decompose.

The government would never do that. Those companies have connections to the government and would just fight it if they tried.

Yeah, you better make sure you watch out for the power wielded by the bottle companies :p They'll send the bottle mafia after you ;)

i'd rather the government stay the f**k out of things like this.

The government MUST play an integral part in the fight against climate change. It's not like business is ever going to do anything green on their own. Why would they, it'll cost them money. They need to be forced by legislation to obey cleaner environmental laws.

I thought the title would be taken as it was meant... a joke! I was really trying to initiate conversation about the crazy weather in NY!

It really shows that liberals are just as reactionary and cultish as the religious right.

Just trying to raise awareness of one of the most important issues of our time.

Trucks are the most polluntant of all vehicles. What are the benefits of recycling? Companies don't reuse the bottles. Paper isn't reused. The only thing is aluminum. And recycling doesn't create jobs for the poor. They work bad hours, low pay, in horrible conditions. The only people who benefit from recycling are the businessmen.

You do know compaines like Coke and Pepsi make billions a year. Money is power.

I moved to Inuvik, Northwest Territories six months ago, and I work here as a reporter. That's in the arctic circle.

From a first-hand point of view, of talking to people, I can say: It's SO OBVIOUS global warming is real! You talk to elders here, and they have never seen the waters freeze over so late in the year.

"We used to ice-fish in October, when I was young," one man told me. Now, it happens only much much later.

Seriously --- if you want to know about global warming, talk to some Inuit or Inuvialuit people. Their ways of life are dissapearing!

Even if the US of A cuts back on pollution, the amount of coal burned by China equals the emissions of 5,000,000 SUVs.

Global Warming is indeed BS - it's been proven over and over again. Earth has gone through numerous climate changes millions of years ago way before man showed up to ruin the planet.

The warming of the Earth durring the Middle Ages is a lot less drastic than the one we are going through

Damn!! :wow:

I believe the internet is slowing down global warming. The fact that all you people are typing to each other instead of talking is defenatly reducing the amount of hot air blowing out your holes.

Companies do not reuse plastic bottles though. It is cheaper for them to just make news ones rather than take the recycled ones, clean them, distribute them to bottling plants, etc.

Plus recycling creates more pollution from recycle trucks. If people just threw everything out, there'd be less air pollution from trucks.

They do not take trees from rainforests and make them paper. Atleast it is not the main reason. They destroy the rainforests for the land, not to make paper from trees. Putting your newspapers out for recycle isn't going to prevent it from happening. It's a totally seperate issue.

1. Plastic bottles get recycled into other plastic products

2. Recycling trucks do NOT create more pollution than garbage trucks. Here in Toronto they create less because garbage has to be shipped outside of the city to be put in a land fill (currently we're shipping it all the way to Michigan). We also only get either a Recycling truck or a Garbage truck each week (this week it's Garbage, next week it's Recycling) so it's the same number of trucks on a week by week basis.

3. Many paper products are made from recycled materials. Don't kid yourself, we are saving trees by recycling newspapers and cardboard. Admittedly rain forests are still being destroyed but that is because the alternative methods of farming have not been brought to those countries. One man has developed a method of farming that uses trays of items on a florescent ferris wheel type deal... it's very weird and interesting and allows him to put a large number of crops in a small space.

Good point. So let's just be apathetic *******s and forget that the whole thing is happening.

The stereotype that Democrats are "people who think of the common people" and Republicans are "evil businessmen" isn't true. Important figures in both groups are millionaires and never had to worry about money their whole life.
So...the fact that we're aware of an inherently flawed system means that we should just accept it? Thanks for the tip, Ghandi.

if global warming and pollution wasn't real... then why are more and more babies born each year with asthma and breathing problems? babies are effected by polluted air then we are

Or just be realistic that it won't make a difference when other countries pollute more than we do

Wow. I really envy your defeatist attitude. With an outlook like that you've probably got a real exciting life.:whatever: I willing to bet you spend most of your time staying up all night playing video games.

Nothing wrong with that. Especially since I work during the day.

The U.S. is a major super-power and should lead the way to the future... if they're not willing to do it with the kind of income and funding they have, how can they expect any other country to make the attempt.

SOMEONE has to start trying to make a difference... if no one tries, then everyone fails.

Fact is 'cause of Bush the US is the main cause of the Greenhouse effect.

No joke,Bush could have done things to help prevent things, inform the public or help to get the word out.But he refuses to belive,so he is guilty.

The USA does not own the world,Europe is actually doing more than the USA in terms of helping the enviroment now at the moment.

Yeah, now Al Gore is doing all the work Bush is supposed to do. I think Al Gore is actually trying to help China to find alternitives instead of using coal.

Bill Clinton's Global Initiative program is also doing some amazing things, many of which really should be done by the government to be honest.
