Should we require federal holidays to be mandatory to the private sector no exceptions. Guarantee workers in the private sector the same days off that pharmacists, banks, post office, and federal workers get?

No need. Establish publicly owned companies in power, water, and housing production and give those people their holidays. Let's see who wants to work for whom.

Child labor shouldn't be legal. :(

Look at all those workers watching her sign it.

I can't believe Joe brought up the Molly Maguires.... :funny:

My union mentor, who tried to join the Lincoln Battalion Lincoln Battalion - Wikipedia , but was told to go home because he was too young, told me a lot of pretty scary stories along these lines. I won't repeat them, but, uh.... they're pretty gnarly. He later joined the Merchant Marines in WWll and lived to tell of it. He was a machinist at UCLA and we met during our organizing campaign for 4,000 technical workers at the University of California. If you can find it and are interested, he's part of the documentary "The Men Who Sailed the Liberty Ships".

Things were different back then, but maybe not as different as we'd like to think. There are people who have economic power who will do anything to keep it and maintain the control they possess.

Dear Kevin,

The answer to your question is that Unions did. You see, for non-exempt employees under the FLSA, they gat paid hourly and if you want them to works after their shift is done, we have this thing called "overtime" and they get paid at least time and a half for that. In my contract with my employer, if they call me and want me to work, it's a 2 hour minimum even if I'm only on the phone for 15 minutes. If they want me to come into work, it's a 4 hour minimum including travel time and both count towards overtime.

Sorry that we're being so unfair to you, but we like to have lives too.

Amazon desperate to make themselves look worse and avoid unions giving their workers power.
