Federal minimum wage to rise on Tuesday

It's not always about where you begin. Some people do the best they can with their mind and body and still can't find a better job. If you work hard, you should get a decent wage to support yourself. Especially if you live in the richest country in the world. :o

I'm sure they're are people who would lower the minimum wage to 1 dollar if it meant increasing their own personal wealth. Who cares if it hurts the least fortunate among us?

I quess my point is nobody needs to settle for minimum wage, I don't care what the circumstances are. Everybody is dealt a hand, some better than others, if you don't work to make that hand profitable, then that person is the only one to blame. Nobody should be waiting for the government to give them a raise.

With that said, to you think the government raising the minimum wage to $12.00 would solve the problems of the working poor? Or maybe the government should put their focus else where to solve this problem, and not force all business's to raise their wages.

Yes, their are some business's out their to make a $ and they don't care about their employees. That will never go away. However, there are far more small business's that care about thier employees and will be drove out of business by this. How does that help the working poor?

The prices of goods and services change with the wind of a hurricane or a war in another part of the world. Raising the wage every ten years, although not keeping with inflation, can do a lot if the family is smart with their finances.

This increase amounts to $28.00 per week for 40 hrs (before taxes). That doesn't go very far, I don't care how frugile a family is.

Also, how to you think a business is going to offset this change in wage? They certainly aren't going to just swallow it.

While this may make some feel all warm and fuzzy, it won't last long.

So they don't have enough for rent, but they have enough for the cable, internet access, and a couple video game systems thrown in, plus a good sized collection of DVDs, CDs, comic books, and a subscription to a few magazines.

And a fridge stocked with nothing but beer

800 a month before taxes.

You can barely afford rent and food with that.

Not to mention clothes, transport, water/electricity, gas, emergencies, phone, or maintenance.

and God forbid you have others depending on you for support.

If you start a small business you should anticipate increases in the minimum wage every so often. You don't need a MBA to figure that out.

i persoanlly think the giovernment should pickup the slack in minimum wages. if a small business can't afford to give thieremployees 7.50 who are curerntly on 5.50, the governemnt should pay the extra 2 bucks tax free.

And if they're still in that situation at age 40 flipping burgers in a fast food restaurant, they simply have to look in the mirror to see why their life got ****ed.

Add a kid to that because they lack the brain capacity to realize the simple fact that if they can barely make ends meet by themselves, they're even more ****ed if they have to raise a kid.

You also don't need an MBA do figure it out who is ultimately pay to pick up the slack. A business cost increases, the cost of their service or product increases.

They could raise the minimum to $20.00 and it still won't solve a thing ultimately.

No one is suggesting they should quadruple the federal minimum wage required. Few businesses are prepared for that nor should they be.

However every business owner should anticipate minimum wage increases based on inflation. That is common sense. The minimum wage has remained the same for the past 10 years. So it's actually going down rather than increasing.
