Perfect example: The owner of one live streaming site I go to got Permission from Rockstar to stream LA Noir the day it was released.

Then, as he started streaming, he was served with a DCMA takedown notice.

From a different department in Rockstar.

While he was streaming the install screen (not any game play).

And the next day, Rockstar figure their **** out, and he was streaming the game. After Rockstar had cost him a day of income.

Current DCMA law is so poorly constructed, and gives companies such broad powers, that they're already abusing it and using them inappropriately. And bills like SOPA want to give them even MORE power.

Love this series of tweets by Hydrophidian. And it's true.

"...engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy." translates into "give us back our control/stranglehold over creators/distribution."

'This rash of independently successful and successfully independent creators is unacceptable to our anitquitated business model.'

'How are we supposed to continue to extort money from creators and consumers if we can't force ourselves between them?'

'These Internets are allowing everyone to ignore our long-standing rules and cut us out of the process! It's so unfair! How selfish!'

'Let us block sites like the You Tubes, so everyone is forced to go back to doing business -through us-! It's the American thing to do!'

The RIAA doesn't like the fact that it's the middle-man in a world where the middle-man isn't needed anymore.

Exactly.

When congress is intent (bribed by lobbyist with loads of money) on passing a bill that will destroy thousands (possibly more) jobs in a time when they've successfully exported a ton of them overseas you know they don't even care in making it apparent these jackasses don't work for the people.

Glad that Google ended up doing what I thought they would and that this movement against old corporate money is gaining quick momentum.

anyone got links to the blackouts, i can't see google as it constantly redirects to the .co.uk, reddit seems fine to me and the only one i have seen is wiki

Try again this is coming up for me:

The Internet is on strike

We have blacked out Imgur today from 8am to 8pm, EST, to raise awareness about the danger that the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) pose to a free and vibrant Internet. It is important that our users understand the far-reaching and potentially disastrous repercussions that this legislation could have.
Please join the discussion. Take three minutes to save the web by clicking the button below and calling your senators. Tell them that you care about the freedom of the Internet.

nah still dont see it but i do if i click on an image.

it may be a region thing, i can't see the google.com blackout either because it constantly goes to google.co.uk

Hmm it seems so.

Looks like it's exclusive to the US. It makes sense as it's US legislation that would just block these sites for us here in the states.

Well so far today I've seen a lot of banners.

Google blacked out their logo. Wikipedia is down in the US. Craigslist is putting up a black page with info for 10 seconds before allowing people to move forward.

Well, looks like it's time to dust off my new ship and dive even deeper into the world of piracy. Come at me SOPA.

Heya,

I've had my site join as well as well, not that I really have any visitors, but ya know. The concept counts, and a few other photographer friends have as well.

http://sopastrike.com/

Here is a list that has joined.

Why isn't the Hype doing anything?

We constantly post copyrighted pics on the forum. SOPA and PIPA could be used to shut this place down too.

possibly to many connections with studios, maybe dont want to rock the boat

This is a message board and whatever "official" stuff that the Hype posts on the main page they have permission to post. It's no different than any other news site.

its not the front page i think he's getting at, people can post stuff on the forums and this bill would just shut the entire site down rather than the single poster

heh, the websites of my state senators are experiencing "technical difficulties" and are not working.

something tells me they dont want us emailing them.

@The_Ultimate_Evil Pretty much. They don't even have to contact the owner.

It's a kill switch plain and simple. Don't be fooled by them trying to sugar coat it in any other way.

How convenient.

Call them up and leave them a message then. These sellouts are trying to hide from doing their "jobs" now how cute.

Yep. Because it's forums.superherohype.com, SOPA and PIPA would allow a company to shut down the entire superherohype domain. And possibly the entire Crave network. All without due process or Crave and Hype being able to argue their case. And there aren't any defined methods to restore service if a site is unjustly taken down.

It's so disgustingly wretched.

1984 gets closer to reality every day...
