Discussion: Strange Mass Animal Deaths!

It's ridiculous to equate the value of a being capable of reason and one incapable of it.

Compared to North Korea in terms of standard of living and income....well, there is no comparison.

I wasn't comparing it to North Korea nor was the guy who mentioned it.

So why compare it to North Korea? So you'll look correct in your assumption that the South isn't poor?

Ah, the "reason" argument. Are you gifted with the ability of telepathy, Norman? Are you so absolutely knowledgeable about the inner workings of a pig's mind? You can't even tell for sure that other people are sentient, aside from the fact that you know yourself to be sentient, and make an assumption that things like you must also be sentient.

Basically, it works out like this:

If I, my sister, my best friend, my dog and a stranger are in a burning building, and all of them (aside myself) are incapacitated, I will save my sister, due to familial connection.

If she can get out on her own, I'd save my best friend, because, well, he's my best friend.

If both my sister and my friend can leave under their own power, I'm saving my dog, because I know him and I have an emotional connection to him.

If all three of the previous can escape under their own power, then I'll help the stranger.

I hate that logic. Life is life is life. Whether you want to weigh the values of different lives in different manners is up to you (and we all do it), but don't act like being buried alive is no big deal.

My opinion? It surely sucks for those pigs, but the species is still going strong and there's not much I can do about it, so I'm not going to worry.

I wasn't saying that being buried alive, whether pig or human, wasn't terrible. I was just commenting that pigs being buried alive in South Korea doesn't mean that the world is ending.

The "just an animal" argument is one of my buttons. It's reasonable, considering my line of work.

And I get what you're saying. Hell, the entire population of China could die off tomorrow, and the world wouldn't be ending.

It just gets so boring hearing that the World is going to end every other month. I can't wait to see what all the hysterics come up with after 2012.

South Korea actually ranks in the top 15 in the Human Development Index, which is higher than Switzerland, France, Hong Kong, and many other developed countries. Its GDP per capita is a little under 30k which puts it in the mid 20s.

Something bad happening there in that area of the world is serious considering North Korea has nuclear weapons.
The entire population of China could die off tomorrow and it wouldn't cause the end of the world, but it sure as hell would destabilise everything.

Now that we've taken care of that, continue posting about mass animal deaths.

Why is it only black birds dying off ? If it was white birds then this would be getting 24/7 news coverage.

White birds died in italy. Black birds died in the states.

Those white birds probably get high quality medical attention to prevent more deaths.:cmad:

South Korea buries 1 million pigs alive due to foot and mouth diseases outbreak.

So we're not supposed to be worried right?
So would this foot and mouth disease have traveled here at all? As a kid I was so scared of mad cow disease and didn't eat beef for a year. Now hearing this, I'm scared again and I'm almost 22. All this stuff is starting to freak me out even more.

Hysteria? I love how people immediately sense "end of the world".

I see no world ending at all either. Why make a massive plot to kill all the important slaves, I mean free people of the world who consume therein pumping money into the global economy. These individuals at power want to sustain their wealth, killing all life on Earth would prove to be quite unprofitable.

If some people consider SK poor and thought it was NK just the past hour or so I wonder if you know that warfare is no longer restricted to man, gun and aim accuracy.

All of this just reeks of phycological warfare using unknown means to kill these animals in "mysterious" ways.

If people feel like they are reading New Age spiel it was probably designed to elicit the thought.

Hopefully not. I'd check out how stocks are doing in the medical side (specifically vaccines relating to foot and mouth diseases)of things see what vaccines might be suddenly going up.

Thats how its all determined really. If your familiar with how to read them I suggest doing that.

I'm not familiar with reading those, but there haven't been many outbreaks of the disease in the states. But even so, animals get transported out of contries all the time, so that worries me. I didn't think there was a vaccine for the disease though.

Vaccines exist. It doesn't prevent the animal from getting infected with FMD but it does help build an immunity against it in the host animal.

Also the reason why its so "dangerous" is because of its specificity. It always has to be by a case by case situation as there are different subtypes so vaccines can't be made until that certain subject is examined.

What I find strange is that I remember posting the news of the FMD news in its beginning stages which happened right when the war drums were being played during the entire SK vs NK standoff.

Even stranger that the disease is only allowed to be examined and researched with diagnostic reports over at Plum Island. Where we monitor, study and create diseases to combat them? Somewhat redundant but apparently necessary.

At this point, North Korea is just posturing with their nukes. If they show that they have the balls to use them, then it's a big deal. And yes, the entire population of China dying off would destabilize everything, as would the extinction of bees, but neither would cause the melodramatic end of the world people so desperately want.

Except for those who have power. Why kill off all your slaves in the global plantation?

If anything I'm sure they are hard at work either creating and probably utilizing methods to achieve their version of stability.

Which means create pandemonium here and there and quilling the fires that are caused naturally as fast as possible to continue their controlled experiment on the planet.

The powers of the world love money to much. To the point where saving it has nothing to do with life at all but the value of inanimate BS.

Ooookay...?

I'm just saying that in my 26 years, the world was supposed to have ended four times. By 2013, it should have ended twice more, at least. So people are deluding themselves because they seem to want to be part of the "end times" for some reason.

I wasn't asking for an anti-establishment, "Boo government", crazy-homeless-guy-style rant in response.

Yeah, and I'm telling you that various insinuations of control won't let bull crap New Age apocalyptic bologna determine the end of the planet.

Thats stupid and has always been stupid. Thanks for the hobo comparison. Guess Hobo's and Twilight seem to be frequent points of comparison on the hype (referring to the Spider-Man board which has been providing many laughs).

I recall being under the age of 10, and some guy on Sky News calculated that the world was going to end that day...Of course he was wrong...More people's BS.
