Discussion: The Coffee Party Movement

Oi, this is stupid. Possibly even dumber than the tea party movement. Any movement that claims the government represents the collective will of the people sucks. We don't need movements that say, "Well, the Democrats took the presidency, lets start a so called 'small government,' party to flush them out despite the fact that we sat quietly by while Bush brought our debt to unseen levels," or one that says, "The Republicans started one and had success! Lets do the exact opposite!" We don't need a political pissing contest between grassroots movements.

This article is funny to me for many reasons.

1) This quote:

Michael Moore said:
"THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ELECTED ME, NOT THE REPUBLICANS, TO RUN THE COUNTRY! I AM IN CHARGE! I WILL ORDER ALL OBSTRUCTIONISTS OUTTA MY WAY! IF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON'T LIKE WHAT I'M DOING THEY CAN THROW MY ASS OUT IN 2012. IN THE MEANTIME, I CALL THE SHOTS ON THEIR BEHALF! NOW, CONGRESS, DROP AND GIVE ME 50!!"

Wasn't this attitude the exact thing he was complaining about Bush having five years ago?

2) The idea of Moore jogging to anything other than a hot dog is laughable.

3) Its funny that Moore complains about Republicans nonstop while failing to acknowledge that Democrats ultimately are guilty of the exact things he accuses Republicans of.

Moore as a political commentator, or well, anything really, is worthless. He's a joke who simply needs to acknowledge it will never be the fifties again and move on with his life.

The Supreme Court elected Bush Matt, and he cheated the second time as well (he didn't even win the popular vote both times). So there is a big difference.

Be it far from me to have nothing but contempt for the 2000 election. We will never know in that election without ALL of the Florida votes being recounted, and I was more than happy to wait...

But, the 2004 election?....what statistics are you going by to say that Bush did not win the popular vote. 62 million to I believe 59 million is winning the popular vote.

I wasn't happy with Bush's presidency either however he hardly "cheated" his way into office. In this country you don't have to have the popular vote in order to get the necessary votes to be elected. While this system isn't perfect it's done so that states like California, Texas, and New York don't get decide every single election over states like Montana and Wyoming who don't have many people in them.

My feelings on the 2000 election are quite well known on the boards...but he did not cheat in 2004. He invoked fear and scared the living hell out of the country to vote for him.

You are correct in your assessment of why we have the electoral college, but its really pretty funny actually, because the electoral votes, are given by the number of representatives for that state, which is done by the population. So really, there is no difference. The larger states have more electoral votes and therefore still have more power in the elections than states like Montana and Wyoming.

Which is why you never see them campaigning in Wyoming and Montana, but you see gazillions spent in California, Texas and New York.

Point taken. I honestly don't like the way the electoral college works. I'd much rather have elected officials be selected by the popular vote. Why let states like CA and TX screw it up for everyone.

:hehe:

It's funny that you picked two states, one that is predominantly Democrat and one that is predominantly Republican, so don't they just cross each other out...lol

I'm tired of all of corny catchphrases that the media is giving both movements. If I hear 'brew' one more time... :argh:

I don't like coffee, I'm a Coke kinda guy.

I'm going to patiently wait until the "Mountain Dew" party emerges.

I'll hush up my mug if you fill up my jug with that good ol' mountain dew!

Not that any of you know the reference, the allusion or the verse about President Roosevelt......

All of this coffee talk is making me want coffee...

*be back in a minute*

I'll have to see if my Cappuccino Maker does that...

Ooooooh, I do that all the time at the Valero on my way to work. That is what I mix...

Wow, that is my morning coffee and I didn't even know the name of it.

I do 3/4 coffee and 1/4 hot chocolate

Yeah, I'll take mine the Irish way after dinner....but not before school.

So was the previous president

Actually, so was THIS president. Obama admitted doing drugs (including cocaine) back in college, which you can read in his book. That's why the Clinton Campaign at the time were upset, because they couldn't use it as a surprise against this president. As to how Obama answered the charge: he basically said that what he did was stupid, he was young, and that he got his life on track by choosing to go to college. THAT, is what I call, a good story about redemption.

O.

I read about this on CNN. I mean it is obviously a gimmick that started on Facebook by people who hate the Tea Party. With that said,

1) I bet they'll have people under 45 at their "meetings."
2) I bet they'll have a body that is less than 98% white Christian.
3) Though there is no way this will catch on, I hope it succeeds so that it pisses off the Tea Partiers enough that they will eat up all their time to call them communists and copycats.

Also, comparing them to Hitler and Stalin. Nice. I hope the real Tea Party has the same drive to go after the Coffee Party. Meanwhile their stupidness can stay out of public notice.
