Discussion: The Economy, Fiscal Cliff, National Debt, And Other Financial Issues IV

As long as there is an influx of ignorant news reporting, and the idea most coming across the border are here for criminal reasons it will be a political nightmare for Joe Biden. Trump needs it to stay a nightmare scenario, and it probably will.

I think there is some disingenuous arguments on both sides of that debate. To The Hill's point, enforcing the Robinson-Patman Act does not necessarily mean higher prices. To Warren, Cortez and Sanders point, economy of scale has been around for a long time, and is seen across all economic sectors, its not going anywhere. They tried passing a similar law back in 2021 to regulate companies like Amazon. Tax break for those small business owners, and possibly tax breaks for those larger grocery stores like HEB here in Texas that stocks their shelves not only with major brands, but also locally sourced products IMHO would go a lot further, and could shut the mouths of most Republicans because they are for lower taxes????? Right?????

Also, grocery stores at least, are now doing far more with locally sourced produce than ever before, Kroger has now jumped on the bandwagon with HEB. The smaller businesses need to expand in their own right at least in their thinking and begin setting up deals with restaurants in their area. They save on cost of transportation, and they can sell not only from their own stores, but reap the benefits of advertisement through the other business they have a partnership with.....Eat Local is growing by leaps and bounds these days.

It's pretty sad that there's a partisan gridlock in the senate over an extremely modest bill to pass some R&D tax cuts and make the child tax credit inflation adjusted.

Did we really need to state the obvious? Of course, because the obvious is oblivious to Republicans who support this failed ideology. Not that they will listen.

I view American academic economists as being equivalent to a priest class. Their purpose is to come up with "arguments" that are largely a croc of dung to support enriching the rich, such as "trickle down", repeal Glass-Steagal, Transpacific partnership, etc.

The cost is that our leadership is now high on its supply, and cannot consider economic matters well.
