Discussion: The Myanmar Cyclone

I think it shouldn't be entirely on the US to do it alone since I think a solid majority of our forces are either in Iraq or Afghanistan. It be more of a collabrative effort amongst nations, including the US

Dude, there are nearly 1.5 million people in the U.S. military, and there are 155,000 in Iraq. I would hardly call that the 'majority.' You greatly underestimate the actual size of the military...

CNN is reporting that a second cyclone is forming off the coast - the UN is warning that a "second wave of death" could be coming.

And it's set to strike the same area? Oh no...

After this unspeakable disaster and government's unwillingness to help the needy, I hope there will be a way to get rid of the regime in Myanmar. People are dying and the government is more interested in self-preservation than lending a hand.

That's a real good way to bring the United States into the good graces of the world again, isn't it? To just ignore a humanitarian crisis like this?

I don't think so.

We always respond to humanitarian crisis with overwhelming enthusiasm - and it has done little to improve our image.

Encouraging US intervention for human rights reasons is fine - but don't pretend that us doing anything will help our PR.

I'm not saying that it would fix things, but it wouldn't hurt.

Or I actually listen to the reports from the Pentagon and from soldiers who say that the military is "being stretched to the breaking point" instead of what the White House tries to say otherwise
