Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have paid $3.5 million for Terry Rossio ("Pirates of the Caribbean" & "National Treasure" films) and Bill Marsilii's epic space adventure Light Speed, reports Variety.

The two writers previously teamed for the Denzel Washington-starrer Deja Vu, which earned $180 million worldwide.

Light Speed centers on a young pilot who makes the Earth Interstellar Racing Team and must take his ship on a perilous journey across the galaxy on the brink of war.

The trade says that Bruckheimer envisions the project as a live-action and potentially 3D film.

Not much to comment (for now) since it's early in development, BUT I'm all for original content and space Sci Fi!

That sounds cool and with Bruckheimer behind it it should be.

This sounds like it could be awesome. I'm liking what I'm hearing so far.

A young pilot traveling across the galaxy on the brink of war?

::cough:: Star Wars ::cough::
